I have converted the buildings from the airports LOWW, LOWL, LOWS, LOWK and LOWG from xplane to fg maybe 2 years ago.
But i never asked if i can use it official for fg. Dont know to much about license rules etc.
Some of the buildings are real heavy so fps for loww and lows break down to 12 fps. And i have no knowledge about graphic programs to reduce the verticles.
I send later some pictures....

Thank you, looks great! But of limited use if there may be a licensing issue ..? I would certainly like to distribute/share the model not just have it .. :-)

To add to TerraSync, the author of the scenery has to release under a GPL compatible license (preferably GPL2+). If the scenery isn't under a compatible license already, it's possible to try asking.

This may be because the buildings are split up into many small models. Ideally they should be combined into one object and share a texture atlas where possible.

If there are lots of draw calls, state changes, or small models making scenegraph traversal slow FPS can drop. KBOS is probably a good example of too many small models IIRC. GPUs can handle large models with lots of vertices these days. As I understand it, there's is an STG merge script that is developed for the next world scenery build that will combine all these tiny separate models into one. This will automatically fix this particular issue eventually, so don't worry too much about it if it's hard to fix.

Kind regards

I could not find something like GPL License on the homepage.
Can somebody with knowledge about GPL take a look at the Homepage http://www.x-plane.at/drupal/node/352

Looking at that site I couldn't find any license details except for some objects and ground clutter which is from from https://www.opensceneryx.com/contribute/upload/ . This is under CC 3.0 non-commercial : Incompatible with GPL (to use objects from a repository like that, the original author of each object has to be asked to release it under GPL). These look like less important objects.

I downloaded the scenery, and there doesn't seem to be any licensing detail.

It's the bigger/complex building models, and building textures, that are useful - minor clutter or small buildings can be replaced with FG equivalents. The project is by the Austria design group based in Austria. (The permission needed is just for the useful models and textures - or the photos for textures. The authors responsible for the useful components can give permission.).

Kind regards

Request: Permission to use scenery LOWW for flight gear

Hello Bernhard!
As long as the scenery is passed on free of charge, we have nothing against it.
But please add the credits, THANK YOU!
vlG Gerhard

P.S .: I'm not familiar with the licenses, but the photos that were used were taken by me personally. Only the ground textures are from GE !!!

Subject: Request: Permission to use scenery LOWW for Flightgear

Dear Mr. oe3gsu

Is it possible that Flightgear can use the scenery from LOWW?
For this I would need the consent of the authors.
As far as I've seen it is for Vienna

made by wuseldusel, danielman, Patrik W. and oe3gsu

Are the sceneries (GPL compatible license (preferably GPL2 +))
compatible?

With kind regards
Bernhard

Hallo Bernhard!

made by wuseldusel, danielman, Patrik W. and oe3gsu

Sind die Szenerien (GPL compatible license (preferably GPL2+))
kompatible ?

Mit freundliche Grüßen

Grüß Euch,

Ok, sounds reasonable! I would volunteer to import and supplement buildings that may be missing by OSM imports. Will take a bit time to install and get used to the toolchain..

[edit]: Forgot one important aspect :-] .. You had it already converted! Could you share it or maybe setup a repo?

I have published a first version of a LOWW scenery from the models converted by powoflight here:

https://github.com/litzenbergerm/fg-scenery-loww

With blender I have drastically reduced the number of objects and duplicate vertices in the 3D models (approx. by a factor of 1000). The performace is quite ok now, I can use the scenery now with 40 fps on my system.

Of course there is still a lot to do and to be fixed: For example all buildings (~100) are now collected into one single object that spans over two scenery tiles, also airport layout and terrain need to be improved, night textures to be re-installed, ...

If you are willing to contribute contact me with your github id and I will give you access to the repo.

I re-activated the night textures and, for those flying low and slow, modelled the police helicopter base at the north side of LOWW. You can start from there by selecting AT0001 as the airport and H1 as a runway.

The all white buildings in the screeshot still lack proper textures.

What do you mean by "-add missing buildings of the surrounding from OSM and texture them" in the Readme under todo?

The original X-plane scenery converted by powoflight misses a number of buildings north of the airport and also in the business park area. I intend to add them to the scenery based on their osm footprints. In fact I already designed and added the Moxi hotel, business park 4, the train station and the police helicopter base. In the screenshot above you can see the white textureless buildings that still need to be finalized.

If you think of using osm2city instead thats certainly also an option. However, for these buildings I could provide photographs of the original buildings for texturing. A detail that could not be achieved by the procedural building generation with osm2city, afaik.
