Hi Thorsten,

Thanks for the 'regional' set of scenery land cover files. I agree with your viewpoints on the need for regionally suited land cover. I have downloaded your files and tried to see how it flies.

1. Do I place them instead of the current Texture and Texture.high folders? This is what I have done, and renamed the previous ones.

2. I get an error message box that says 'fgfs has encountered an error and needs to close' please report this error to Microsoft, etc. I also get the following output in console - when set to debug level.

navaid CYKF 26 ILS-cat-I associated with bogus runway ID:26
navaid EDDB 07 ILS-cat-I associated with bogus runway ID:07
navaid EDDB 25 ILS-cat-III associated with bogus runway ID:25

navaid MB3 has no range set, using defaults
Skipping bad material entry params
can't find "Effects/landmass-nowood.eff"
can't find base effect Effects/landmass-nowood

3. I looked in the Effects folder and the landmass-nowood.eff file is NOT there. I presume this file has to be found from some where. Where do I get this and the other effects files being referred to in the material.xml file and I noticed that several are not there in the Effects folder?

I had not got any such error messages before. Would anybody be able to help? FG will not run at all now but was fine for last couple of years.

I am on a Windows XP SP3 machine, 1 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce Graphics, running FGFS 2.0,

Thanks.

I've been editing a materials.xml of a recent GIT - thus there may be several changes to it beyond the regionalizing I have done, and some of those would seem to be incompatible with a 2.0.0 binary. For instance, I believe many shader effects were only introduced after 2.0.0 was released.

Given that a release 2.4 is imminent, I won't make the package 2.0.0 compatible :-( You can have a go with the bare texture mix (without regional effects), or you can copy and insert the relevant declarations (conditionals on /position/latitude-deg /position/longitude-deg) into your original materials.xml yourself if you feel up to the task (I believe that should work just fine, and the file structure is easy enough to understand).

Sorry about that, but I didn't really think about 2.0 compatibility.

Sure you have access to high quality texture sources:

http://eros.usgs.gov/#/Find_Data/Products_and_Data_Available/High_Resolution_Orthoimagery

You can see which resolution the files have and the license here:
http://orthoimagery.cr.usgs.gov/dispatches/PRODUCT_Orthos.html

You have to sign up though in order to access them.
Make sure to choose the highest resolution (0.15m/ 0.5 foot)and produce large textures (you can always downscale them later without noticeable quality loss and place them in the low-res texture folder). Have fun :)
