That must be much more satisfying to fly than the default VMAP0 scenery :)

It is, but it's also a trap. You start building it because you want better scenery to fly in, and you end up getting obsessed with building scenery instead of flying. :)

Don't even get started on ws3.0. I got the entire midwest going and just now did New York, Manhattan area just to see it. It is unbelievable. Especially as it is raw NLCD and OSM. I'll post a thread highlighting it soon.

I couldn't agree more  if it wasn't for my lack of free time, the change for the WS3.0 and the lack of data i would have probably already done the entire south america by now

Scud running under the clouds near Sharbot Lake, ON. The small water areas are detailed enough for low-level pilotage, even when there are no coastlines, settlements, roads, railroads, or powerlines.

How many FPS do you get with that tree density? (is it very high or ultra high?)
Also, trying to replicate that look... that loading lag with those trees... way worse than ws3 + ortho

I pump up the tree density for the screenshots. Normally, I fly with medium density. I can still control the plane with ultra high (on a Thinkpad with onboard graphics), but it's a bit jerky. I want to show how the scenery would look on a high-end desktop computer, for those who have them.

US Forestry Service Twin Otter amphib approaching the Duluth Harbor Basin in the rain under a low-pressure system. (A gift for Curt, who works in Duluth now.) The basin would look much better with a couple of 3-D models of docked lakers, if anyone has one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_freighter

I've got one... I mean, fps is still in the flyable category... but the loading lag ruins it all.

For loading building models, an optical drive a solid-state drive helps a lot (it doesn't solve the problem, but it's less noticeable.)

even with additional loading threads allowed to OSG?
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."
