Frankfurt am Main (EDDF) update

Postby DeltaSVEN » Mon Nov 16, 2020 10:31 pm

Hi,

Since Frankfurt is, beside the main terminal buildings, not very populated, I've started work on some secondary/cargo buildings. I've created a Frankfurt custom scenery, which you can find here:

https://github.com/D-Sven/Frankfurt

It contains some nice terrain by D-ECHO, thank you! FMS procedures and NavDat will be up to date soon. Let me know below if you have any suggestions for the area!
This is early progress, but I hope you like the idea of a "EDDF facelift" :)

Interesting work! Indeed the models are great. And I never thought that taxiway can be implemented in FG, which is exciting!

On that "improved EDDF" I can't see any additional objects or jetways etc.

@legoboyvdlp: I think V12 is trying to make the point that there already is a very detailed scenery available for EDDF.

@DeltaSVEN: Have you considered instead adding them to the default scenery, in essence per https://scenery.flightgear.org/contribute.php ?

That is merely project3000 which fills the airports with x-plane objects. You can install that yourself separately.

Thanks for your initial feedback.

1. @V12: I am aware of the terraGIT scenery. But because it's just a bunch of single shared objects (which sometimes really don't fit to FRA) it's just a framerate-killer to me. My goal is to keep Frankfurt performance-friendly! Jetways are still available via AI - Jetway settings.

2. @Johan G: Thanks for the hint - all single static objects will be uploaded to terrasync if they fit the ts-terrain :)

3. This custom scenery is far from finished.

Greetings,

Sven

There is now a new and smaller version of Frankfurt available on my github:

https://github.com/D-Sven/Frankfurt

I have started work on the new Terminal 3, which is expected to open in 2026:

Image

My hometown airport EDFZ received a facelift with new runway config and PAPIs.
All airports in the covered area received a detailed layout from WED and are modeled (at least shared objects).
Some of them still need appropriate parking positions.

Corresponding to this project is my Frankfurt-Hahn scenery:

https://github.com/D-Sven/Frankfurt-Hahn

EDFH also received a major facelift and is fully modelled. All other airports in the covered area are also fully modeled but not textured yet.

There is full osm2city coverage for both sceneries.

Have fun and expect further updates!

Looks great. (When) will those be available in terrasync?

As far as I know, EDFH looks really crappy in terrasync. Old taxiways and a bunch of shared objects and custom buildings which dont exist IRL. You would first have to delete them and then fit the realistic models in the old layout somehow... I can try.

Concerning EDDF T3 I will definitely upload the buildings once they are completely finished. For that I need more pictures of them. Friends of mine took some of the construction site in November while performing a lowpass over Frankfurt, which was very helpful :)

Update:

I reworked Frankfurt Egelsbach EDFE, which is a few miles south Frankfurt am Main. It's a really busy GA field and some new buildings were erected in the past years.

Also I included Uniklinik Mainz heliport and the main hospital building. At the moment it is not possible to launch the simulator there but you can easyly land and takeoff again.

Cheers,

Sven

hi,

thx for creating this scenery. I've downloaded it today and noticed some missing model errors when spawning at EDFE:
(similar errors to what was reported for the Berlin custom scenery)

Code: Select all
Path "/home/sfr/fgfs/Custom_Scenery/Frankfurt/Objects/e000n50/e008n50/3089155.stg": Failed to load OBJECT_SHARED 'Models/Airport/RectangularGroundmarker_RedWhite.xml'

At http://flightgear.sourceforge.net/scene ... ls/Airport i can only find RectangularGroundmarker_RedWhite.ac

Some other models are also reported as non-existent (file not found):

darmstadt_hochzeitsturm.ac
darmstadt_staatsarchiv.ac
darmstadt_ludwigskirche.ac

Then,
Code: Select all
e000n50/e008n50/3089154.stg
references
Code: Select all
OBJECT_STATIC Eiserner_Steg.xml
but only Eiserner_Steg.ac exists in Objects/e000n50/e008n50/.

Terrasync is enabled. Just thought i'd let you know.

Bye, sfr

"At the moment it is not possible to launch the simulator there but you can easyly land and takeoff again." You just need to edit a file related to heliports, coordinates and how high you want to appear with the heli, after some corrections it works. I don't remember where the file is located though
