WS3.0

Postby dom_vc10 » Wed Oct 20, 2021 12:01 pm

Hi

Just want to clear some confusion I have :P

I read this on the wiki

As of 05/2021, WS30 is available on "next", and on the nightly builds.

Scenery is available for Scotland, but must be downloaded directly (https://drive.google.com/file/d/18CfT_s ... sp=sharing). You need to add the downloaded and then extracted folder as additional scenery folder.

I see I can select the use of WS3.0 in FG so yesterday I checked the box to try it out however the airport I was at was present but no ground away from that. Is it only the Scotland demo area that can be tested yet because the wiki, when I read it, suggests the northern hemisphere up to N60 is done. I haven't seen many details if any on the forum just general "wait fro WS3.0 and issue x will be resolved" so I am not sure if it's something we can really test yet or not. If some kind soul could enlighten me I would appreciate it :D

Hi StuartC,

WS30 differs from WS20 in that the terrain is based on a regular grid. In that particular case, with 100m resolution. I'm currently generating scenery with 25m resolution, which will look better, though still more blocky than WS2.0. I should have the 25m data available in the next day or so.

To improve it further, we can overlay coastline information from OpenStreetMap as a coastline layer. I'm still working on that but it can show much better coastlines.

@dom_vc10: WS30 is only available for Scotland, and is not available on Terrasync at present. You need to download it and set it up manually.
