tg-construct 2.1.0 won't construct my scenery

I'm trying to do the final step for a new airport for the Wednesday evening session, but tg-construct always fails with "No area named …". When I delete "…" (e.g. Lake) from the commandline below, it doesn't find another area. And if take away everything besides "AirportArea" and "SRTM-3", it doesn't find the "Hole" area …

I got the terragear binaries from the docker image. What did I do wrong ? I did specify each of the area types to ogr-decode using a bash-rewrite of some batch script:

Which docker image?
Last time I've checked, the "official" one was over 2 years or so old.

tg-construct now doesn't give any more errors after running ogr-decode on the landmass file what I forgot to do before ! :roll: But … the output directory is still empty …

I don't know why it (seems to) work now - tg-construct is now already running for over 10 minutes for an area of 2x2 degrees (lon/lat). But it is yielding this message in tons:

Will that do any harm to my final scenery, and will tg-construct finish with this at all ? (and output something into output/Terrain, which it didn't do until now ?)

EDIT: I just discovered that some Shared folder has appeared inside my work directory. It indeed contains some subfolders and files - is this a sign that my scenery is indeed being built ? The process is already running half an hour now !

If I have 100 MB of terrain data (elevation, landmass, landclasses), how much stage1 output will tg-construct produce ? 100MB ? The half ? The double ? I just want to be able to at least guess how much time it will take - it's already running 14 hours now and has produced 55 MB of stage1 output !

it depends on the terrain area you are working with...
there is no concrete answer or one that fits all... 100MB of terrain data for the Sahara Desert will generate a much different quantity of output when compared to the same for the alps for example...

AAARRRGGGHHH - I could EAT myself :x :evil: :shock: Now I know the reason for all the "tgAccumulator::Add() - Adding poly with 0 contours" messages - I forgot to add the Default landclass / material to tg-constrcuts command line … I guess I now have to remove everything tg-construct already produced (in 16 hours ! :twisted: ) and rerun, right ?

Hi TheEagle,

I recall having similar issues at some point; this is a note I had in one of the wiki articles:

There are two docker images, flightgear/terragear:ws20 and flightgear/terragear:latest. The former corresponds to the 2.0 world scenery build, while the later points to the latest code. The latest container has several improvements and GDAL tools which can be used to manipulate shapefiles, but also unfortunately has bugs in the hgtchop and terrafit tools for SRTM-3 data. The best way is to use flightgear/terragear:ws20 for elevation data processing, and flightgear/terragear:latest for everything else.

@Fahim ARRRGGHH - I think I used just "docker pull flightgear/terragear" without a tag after that. Will try and let you know ! In fact, hgtchop outputs something like

these min and max values about correspond to the elevations I saw in the finished scenery. Do you know how to get the minimum and maximum elevation in a HGT file without using QGis / similar ? "gdalinfo" file.hgt doesn't output such information …

EDIT: do I need to re-ogr-decode all shapefiles after regenerating /changing the SRTM data ? The hgtchop from the ws20 branch outputs the same min and max values as above …

@Fahim seemingly this helped - most of the elevation issues are corrected now. But there are still two very high … well, you cannot even call them mountains:

And at the border of the tile there are differences in the terrain of the tile and the default terrain. Any way to prevent that except building the surrounding tiles too (and their surrounders, and so on) ? Can't TerraGear just take the Terrain files from TerraSync and put the runway and lights on top ?

those height differences at the edges are exactly why you have to build the whole island/continent at once... even building islands can result in height differences but they are out in the ocean and generally don't affect anything...

why there are height differences is another question... apparently the height data is not the same as originally used...
