Dallas & Fort Worth Development [KDFW]

Postby Rick Ace » Thu May 24, 2012 2:40 pm

Hey guys! What's up? :) Dallas/Fort Worth (KDFW) is the world's fourth busiest airport by aircraft movements, as designated in 2010, and possibly the third now, after 2011. It's also the largest hub for American Airlines, and the second largest airport by area in the United States. Furthermore it's situated right in the middle of Dallas and Forth Worth. Many major cities in the U.S, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean are a relatively short flight away. Great airport, eh? :D

Apparently, there are no models for KDFW. So, after you guys confirm that it hasn't already been done, I'd like to break ground by starting with modelling a terminal.

After modelling the terminal, I'd be willing to beautify the surrounding scenery, and will be willing to attempt to change it to DAT 850, if it is not already in that format. But for those two things, I'd need some pointers. :)

This will be in GPL, and I'm hoping to get this on terrasync, if possible, and if my work is up to those standards, lol.

If you're interested in improving the scenery I can easily pop out a 2x2 square degree chunk of shapefiles around KDFW based on USGS data sometime in late June.

I recently did groundnet and rwyuse files for KDFW which result in two takeoff runways and two landings runways. All parking positions and taxiways were positioned per Google maps. I’d be happy to send the groundnet and rwyuse to you if you’d like. They should be included in FG sometime soon.

Your work is illegal. Because :

Is it so ? this link seems to suggest lat lon are not owned by google maps and this is the only data a groundnet would need/use. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/208 ... 1#20804351

Wouldn t it be the same issue if you extract parpos lat long from a WED layout drawed from a wedbing background image although Bing may have different t and c.
