I saw this too and I tried to contact him a few weeks ago to see if he was interested in the FG project but I had no response (yet). I'd only have to refer him to the developers as it's mostly over my head...

I'd love to see him implement those amazing volumetric clouds for fg...

How did you contact him?

Hi merspieler, yes that would be impressive - his contact info is out there, I forget.
It would be well worth someone who speaks fluent code to reach out to him maybe ;)

[edit] he publishes his work on Github

[edit] contact details removed from this post, channels are there for those who are interested.

I imagine he'll get hundreds of emails/posts/requests for projects, I bet he'd find FG interesting it's just a matter of getting through to talk to the guy.

Gentlemen, please sit back for a moment and think.

In what world is 'Hey, nice project you've got there, would you like to leave it alone and work for mine for a while?' a proposal that's likely to make you friends?

It's not just a question of 'getting through' - if I were contacted by someone representingproject XY with such a proposal, I'd consider it plain rude to even suggest such a thing.

Moreover, it's not just taking a few lines of code from here and inserting them there and everything it'll be oh so cool - for the end user it's a few minutes of updating FGData, but for the developer it's easily a hundred hours of designing, trying, discarding, trying something else, optimizing, ironing out the bugs etc. - the 100 lines of code you see in the end are usually not something that's written in one go.

So if you count the workinghour of an experienced developer even with 50$, you're asking 'Hey, do you mind donating 5000$ to us?'

In what world does that work?

If someone ignores rude emails from you - leave him alone.

For me, my email to him was very polite with no expectation whatsoever because that's my approach with strangers and for me (again), I know how much work is involved but if a non-profit catches your imagination then it's a different animal. The trouble with digital communication is assuming it's been received and interpreted as intended (any communication for that matter including this post) and a polite 'no thanks' or 'sorry I don't have time' would clear that up, silence on the other hand could mean anything including email being buried in all the other 100's of (possibly thoughtless) emails these talented people get. I'm certainly not going to hound him (or suggest anyone should), just explore the channels before moving on.
