Basic Rocket Engine Burn Effect

Postby gigavoltflash » Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:17 am

I've been developing my own rocket model in FlightGear and want to add an engine burn effect. What is the best way to do this? I've searched quite a bit but haven't found a straightforward system (like sounds has). I don't need anything eye-catching, just planning to use the same effect as the Space Shuttle to show that visually that the engine is burning.

http://wiki.flightgear.org/ALS_technica ... ame_effect

(Note that the effect of the Shuttle is quite complex, because it contains not only the different flame colors and turbulence during the ignition sequence but also the disappearing Mach shocks and the plume widening with dropping pressure at higher altitude)
