Light scattering on hazes

An exciting "new" option in FlightGear, that includes reflections, lightmaps, the particle system etc.. A lot is yet to be discovered/implemented!

Speechless. It's amazing to see what the whole ALS project has become. I remember when there were only three sliders controlling mie and rayleigh scatterings. Back then I thought the project had no future and that FG needed a proper graphics engine like Rembrandt. You keep proving me wrong Thorsten, outstanding work!

Slightly OT here but I just wanted to share some pictures I never considered would be possible and would have easily thought to be manipulated.
Short version: City lights, road illumination, neon ad boards are mirrored as light pillars in flat ice particles suspended in static layer of frigid cold air spanning a couple of 100 meters of altitude above Oslo.
Learning something new about the atmosphere is really fun.

Nice one. We had below -30 degC here last week, and I've seen the 22 deg ring and sundogs on one occasion and very impressive light pillars from cars passing at night.

I immediately thought about this when I saw that picture:

These are lights mounted on the ground to remember how much was destroyed from the city Rotterdam during WWII. Not a complete natural phenomenon.

They look a bit like Martian barrage balloons.
