2D shadow on ground

An exciting "new" option in FlightGear, that includes reflections, lightmaps, the particle system etc.. A lot is yet to be discovered/implemented!

Which is in fact physically wrong because diffraction extincts the shadow long before that altitude. But people seem to love it anyway...

Yes it should be becoming a somewhat biplane shaped smudge at that point. You'ld be surprised at what passes for acceptable at the payware sim side of optical and shadowing effects. Rise of Flight's self shadowing often times has bleed under and through of light where struts enter a lower wings upper surfaces, the shadows often have 'jaggies' and of course the ground shadows are all well defined even when the aircraft is well above 2000'. Looks real nice from a distance, but when you're in the cockpit it's hard to ignore.
