Stock rendering glitch not with ALS on

Stock rendering glitch not with ALS on

This is something I came across by accident only on scenery I generated. On the stock 2.0 it's not there. My puzzlement is why only with ALS OFF does it do this?

Seen that a few times, there is a possibility that it's probably more terragear than ALS related.

What's odd is that with ALS on, it disappears. With ALS off it is when it show up.

Different rendering code. The default runway effect uses tangents and binormals of the mesh, ALS does not. If the mesh is buggy, tangents and binormals get strange, so default gets thrown, ALS gets not. Presumably the problem also goes away if you switch shader quality to low (and hence don't use the runway effect).

See how it looks in wireframe, maybe that's instructive.

There was a fix in terragear that cleaned up a lot (but not all) of the confused tangents and binormals. Looks like Jan 24th, 2014. Make sure terragear is up to data.

Yes that was scenery generated a while back, but I had just noticed that error. Thanks guys!
