Point sprites for runway lights causes no runway lights.

I hadn't flown around in FG at night for some time and to my surprise when I recently tried to there were no runway lights anywhere. It turns out it was because the "Use point sprites for runway lights" was checked and that is what caused them to quit working. Any one know why?
Can someone explain what that switch is used for "what point sprites" are, or maybe point me to an explanation.

I have the same problem, I read that is caused by problems with some ATI graphics cards to render the sprites of light

Thank you Gabo. I don't even know what I am missing with it being off. I take it without it it is just pixels lit up but with it it is a texture and what, looks better?

My graphic card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650. And in the rendering settings menu, i even "use point sprites for runway lights" thing doesn't appear. What can be my problem and how can i fix it?

Hi. IIRC the point sprite is bogus on FG with ATI. In order to activate it, you need to check the option, next unchecked to get the point sprite lights..

By setting that switch on to off the ATI user get rwy lights, that's all. If those lights are sprited, no way to compared. You get lights but don't know what kind of.

For 2020.3 (or later) AMD graphics cards that have no lights should turn off "Use triangles for directional lights" on the rendering menu when turning on "Use point sprites for runway lights" and then either exit and restart or use Debug->Reload scenery
