Rembrandt addon - night vision + cinema effects

Postby fredb » Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:51 pm

The night vision / cinema effect that is in git (FG 2.9) is now available for 2.8 users. Once installed, it modifies the Rembrandt configuration dialog like this :

There is no return path except reinstalling fg. Windows users just have to execute the provided setup. Linux and Mac user must unzip the zip file over the base package. Beware to unzip at the right place in order to overwrite existing files.

Linux + Mac : http://frbouvi.free.fr/flightsim/Rembra ... ffects.zip

Can the night vision be limited to specific areas of the view, eg the HUD glass? or to a set of specific views?

In principle (as an approximation) that's probably not so difficult and similar to the mask code I've written.

* compute in Nasal the four corners of the region you want to use night vision in dependent on your current view and zoom level
* pass them as a uniform to the shader
* do the night vision postprocessing only if you're inside that region, pass the pixel through otherwise

A (plane-specific) demo can probably be done quite quickly...

I was just crurious to see if it was that flexable. I will wait for the next release before I try that but its now added the list off updates for our aircraft.

The current effect works to simulated goggles. If you want it on a monitor, that would require we manage another view in deferred shading and map it on a 3D object like an odGauge. I haven't thought about it until now.

The effect is controllable using the property bound to the checkbox. You should be able to change it when the view change.

Any way you can dumb down the process of downloading this into my copy of 2.8? I have no clue how to do this....

If you're on Mac, you need to decompress the .zip file over your existing data (and overwrite existing preferences.xml files and others that this add-on supersede). I can't give you more details because I don't know where the base package (the data) is usually installed on a Mac

Applications/Flightgear.app/Contents/Respurces/data. Go to applications and find Flightgear, right click and say "view contents" and then go to Contents, Resources, and then data.
