Anti-aliasing  Topic is solved

An exciting "new" option in FlightGear, that includes reflections, lightmaps, the particle system etc.. A lot is yet to be discovered/implemented!

Anti-aliasing

Postby sgofferj » Sun Jan 01, 2012 3:33 pm

Hi,

I usually fly at 1600x900 with 24bpp. I noticed that sometimes there's quite some "stairs" at edges which show especially well when using the vmx22 prototype because it doesn't have any textures at the moment. I tried setting "override application settings" and put high anti-aliasing in nvidia-settings but that had no effect.
Now I'm wondering if FG uses anti OpenGL anti-aliasing effect and if the current imagery already is the result of this or if it doesn't use any anti-aliasing.
I'm just thinking, at 1600x900/24bpp there shouldn't necessarily be very obvious "stairs" anymore, should there?

On my computer, multi-samples=4 results in a pretty large frame rate hit. multi-samples=2 looks almost as good, with minimal slowdown. Just FYI.

On Mac, the launcher's Rendering pane has a slider for this setting, no command-line code required.

That would be a great feature for FGrun.
