Install the experimental version of Flightgear with snap

Postby abassign » Thu Mar 25, 2021 9:01 pm

Hi I would like to use snap to install the experimental version of Flightgear in Arch Linux. I tried the version with snap that is currently installed, but it is certainly quite old, for me and other Flightgear Italy fans the 2020.4 (next) version is interested.

I don't know how to deal with the installation problem but if it was done for 2020.3.2 I hope someone will help me do it for 2020.4, I noticed that the snap unfortunately does not install fgdata as indicated by this link: https://snapcraft.io/flightgear
I don't know why, but I think it can be handled with a short script.

We could also compile using a script similar to download_and_compile.sh but it has never been modified for Arch Linux.
If anyone has an idea how to do it ... he is welcome :)

You could write your own build script based on these commands: https://wiki.flightgear.org/Building_Fl ... r_-_Devuan
Except for the dependencies part these instructions should work on Arch as well. The script does not have to be a monstrosity like the d&c one, a simple and lean one will do.

Have you tried the AppImage? it shouldn't require installing anything else - just grabbing fgdata, either via tarball or git)
