Assuming that you know C++ and the corresponding IDE (Eclipse in this case), it should be too difficult to work with the NetBeans instructions and treat them as a template for coming up with a corresponding Eclipse equivalent:

It's not exactly rocket science, as long as you are willing to document the whole journey, I am sure that there are people around here who can walk you through the whole thing.
It is a little premature to make any commitments, but my thoughts are that I would like to pursue some work with HLA and/or sim state capture and restore capability. I am just getting started with flightgear and obviously have a lot to learn.
