Windows 10 update warning

Postby Alant » Mon Oct 31, 2016 12:34 am

(Note also cross posted on the devel email list)

Yesterday I suddenly noticed (it was difficult to miss) a FG frame-rate of 1 , and CPU loads on my laptop of 100%. The effect was similar , but not quite so disastrous, on my desktop.

The first attempted cure was to roll back FG git a couple of weeks. The result - no effect.

So look for other changes......

MS updated Windows a couple of days ago. Uninstalling updateKB 3199754 has put my laptop back to how it was – 20 fps.

Edit
Sorry, my typo. The offending update is KB3197954. I have just uninstalled this update on my desktop machine, which is now back to 30fps instead of 5fps.

Without asking, my desktop downloaded and installed the update again. This time the result was an increase in framerate. FG is now running at 35fps.

Presumably uninstalling a cumulative update and then re-installing it cleans things up. I will see what happens on my laptop when it boots up next time.
