Building FlightGear from source, and in the need for help?

Quoting Torsten Dreyer on a message sent yesterday evening to the -devel mailing list:
Hi all,

after months or even years of discussions, tests, attempts and
who-knows-whats, its finally there: the new fgdata repository without
aircraft.
Stripped from all aircraft and their history and also stripped from the
history of Scenery/ AI/ and Models/ the bare git still weighs approx 1.3GB.

It lives on sourceforge at https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/fgdata/

You need to get a fresh clone of this new fgdata, don't try to add this as
a new remote to your old clone. Almost all commit ids have changed so it's
not compatible with the old clone.

Currently, this is read-only for most of you. I'd like to keep it that way
for a couple of days to gather feedback. If everything works correctly, we,
the admins of the new FlightGear home will happily re-add contributors.

Please register with sourceforge, upload your public key and send your
sourceforge username along with a chocolate-bar to Curt, Clément, James or
me. We will happily grant commit rights to those who have previously
commited to fgdata.

really? after they removed the aircraft section?

That post was made befoe the fgdata split was announced. Sorry, but my crystal ball was turned off,

There are more big changes coming. Flightgear and simgear willl need to be moved from gitorious before it closes down.

I would advise everyone to wait until the dust settles on that before using ths script.

"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Today I turned off the old directory fgfs (fgfs-> fgfs.old) and I built a new direcory fgfs, I have copied with the command
Code: Select all
wget -O download_and_compile.sh https://www.gitorious.org/fg/fgmeta/ Raw / next: download_and_compile.sh

the script" download_and_compile.sh "

Finally the compilation is successful :) !

As was expected, the system now has only the basic aircraft (C172p) and the UFO, great :)! Then I simply copied the planes with which normally I fly, so now I have a program lighter and easier to rebuild. We have to remember that to have the command fgrun must enter the following command "./download_and_compile.sh FGRUN"

I wanted to thank everyone for the assistance I was given to solve this problem!

Hi all,

We are after lunch time and so some 'spaghetti' can obscure my eyes, and my brain.

Yes I can confirm if you download the official .sh script and you run it without parameter you have a fresh version of fgfs, in my case without error. If you run from 'run_fgfs.sh' you can find yourself in Frisco with your marvelous Cessna, in my case I have missed some building details, but i think it is about of the intel graphic card. I can also confirm that you can find only Cessna and UFO aircraft.
Yes I can understand the the space saving using less Aircraft, but please tell us where to get the 'actual' version of all Aircraft , because i use to have it all on my hardisk. So at this point can we 'git' all the Aircraft directory directly in /install/fgfs..../fgdata/Aircraft directory ?

what i did:
Code: Select all
cd myfgfs-dev
svn checkout svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/fgaddon/trunk fgaddon-ng

then add "myfgfs-dev/fgaddon-ng" to the aircraft directory list... eg: --fg-aircraft=/home/myuser/myfgfs-dev/fgaddon-ng/Aircraft
