Who is Brisa? I would be happy to contact him if it helps. I had an interesting development. I ran
Code: Select all
./download_and_compile.sh FGFS UPDATE
and the line I had added was removed from the launch script. FG returned to the same behaviour after the update but I edited the line JJTH suggested and it fixed her up good as new again.

It's totally normal since the script rewrite the "run_fgfs.sh" each time you run the script.
To solve it I have a simple solution for you :
1) create a copy of "run_fgfs.sh" and name it "run_myfgfs.sh"
2) edit your new "run_myfgfs.sh" and add my previous hack into

Now you can run FG with ./run_myfgfs.sh
You can also update your FG installation without problem now.

Your problem is a local problem and not common problem. He is specific because he require to install a specific software (Bumblebee if I understood correctly) and for now I don't know if the script is destinated to deal with this particular problem.

Therefore I suggest to add your experience to the wiki page, let me know if my solution works fine and I will update it if you prefere. A new section "Info for Optimus users" should be perfect.

Cheers,
Clément

Thanks Clément. And while this may be an isolated problem right now it will soon be a lot more common as more and more optimus systems appear. What is nice about your solution is how simple it is. I like simple.

I had to reinstall Ubuntu because I do not yet know how to fix whatever breaks during a crash, so I also recompiled FG and reinstalled Bumblebee. Then I added the command:
Code: Select all
sed  's|./fgfs|optirun ./fgfs|' run_fgfs.sh > run_fgfs_optirun.sh && chmod +x run_fgfs_optirun.sh
in the terminal and launched FG. Then it crashed again... So it looks like the command at the wiki doesn't work yet. I will have to do another full reinstall of Ubuntu etc, but will only use:
Code: Select all
optirun ./fgfs --fg-root=$PWD/../fgdata/ $@
this time. I have been at this all day and need to take a bit of a break first and will post results later.

deleting and reinstalling an OS like Linux is really not necessary, that's a bad habit from using Windows :D

I know, but I haven't figgered it out yet! :?: BTW, I launched fgfs using
Code: Select all
optirun ./fgfs --fg-root=$PWD/../fgdata/ $@
It runs fine, even on the broken drive. Mind you, I am getting crash reports from apparmor and FG collapses after a while so I still need to fix it. I tried removing and reinstalling bumblebee but it persists. So far all that works is to reformat my root partition and reinstall Bumblebee etc. Behold!

I get those repeatedly after trying to launch FG without that magic script mod.

Edit: I found out who Brisa is! He done wrote the wiki. Every day, in every way, I am getting smaaaaaaaaaarter.

One further question if I may... Because I have an Intel/Nvidia optimus chipset I am unable to use a launcher as I must use the modified optirun script. I read through all the FGCom pages at the wiki and see that it needs to be configured using a launcher. Does anyone know another way to run FG and FGCom solely through terminal?

Would the "show commandline" thingymajiger in FGRun help you? Or are you asking about commandline options for FGCom itself (sorry, I don't use it and don't know if it actually takes/needs options). Brisa is also here on the forums, do a member search ;).
