Flightgear GIT

Postby Pilot Penguin » Fri Sep 17, 2010 8:09 pm

Hi guys!

I was just wondering about flightgear GIT...

is it like the new version of CVS? If not, then what is it?
Is it a good idea to get it? ( I know that I have been disappointed in flightgear 2.0.0 because it has no new water effects or anything)
If so where can I get it?

All comments appreciated

Cheers!

Hi,

is it like the new version of CVS?
Yes. CVS and Git are essentialy the same things, just a different name. Both are a way of tracking file history. When a new release is made, all files (with the exception of most aircraft) from Git/CVS are put into a package. After the release, development of the next release continues.

Is it a good idea to get it?
Depends. If you are just dissapointed because you've seen screenshots with features that were not yet included with 2.0 I would say no. If you are interested in running the latest version (eg. because you are developing aircraft/scenery and need to know if it works with the upcoming release) and aware of the "risks" (Git is "unstable", features might be broken at any times), I say yes.

If so where can I get it?
See http://wiki.flightgear.org/index.php/FlightGear_and_Git
