Ok, I'm going to download the data, and see what aircraft they included, and see if I can find out what version it is.

Well, good news! It took a 1.9.1 patch from Ubuntu and a patch from Gentoo but I got SimGear compiled! Now to get FG *crosses fingers*.

FGRun will be another story.

Maybe I was using the wrong download, could you guys give me a link to the download you're using? I'm sure I have it right, I just want to make sure.

WOAH! You don't even need a real address to get in the dev area! Just type something random but valid like iloveflightgear@ihateflightprosim.dontyoutoo and you'll get in!

Also, the compilation keeps failing on me no matter what. I'm giving up. :(

It works for the affliate area too! XD This is killing me!

BTW, the affliate area has a bunch of reviews you can copy and paste into your "FlightProSim promotion review." No wonder we're getting so many FPS spam sites out there. >_>

skyop, you're a genius! Now we all can access the dev area without needing to surrender our real email to them!

It appears they were too lazy to establish a working SQL database or a working php and/or htaccess file system.

Today, I received this "Developers edition" email/newsletter from the FlightProSim "Team". I will post them here when I receive more, but here is what I received today:

"Hi Jack M.,

Wow what a busy few months.

In only the first few months of the FlightProSim project we are
already getting a loyal customer base.

We already have already had the first major update / upgrade and
are already working on the second installment.

A new dedicated server is being used + a backup server to help
increase download speeds. Another mirror is also about to be
released.

The help area is almost ready for release

Video tutorials are being created

Step by step help guides are also being created

Three dedicated support staff are available for members questions

A dedicated writer to help with tutorials

not to mention the thousands of affiliates helping to promote FPS

You could say this site really is expanding...

:::LATEST RELEASE OF SOURCE CODE:::

In case you have not checked recently the latest source code
release has been made available for all our developers to trial /
use / adapt

This includes the brand new Launch Control Update that completely
rewrites the start up of FPS to create an easier to use system for
our users.

Make sure you check it out at:

http://www.flightprosim.com/developers/

As a note please be aware that FlightProSim is a trademark and
although this code is released under a generous license the name
and logo are not. More details of this are available in the
developers area, Privacy Policy, Disclaimer and Terms and
Conditions pages.

:::GENERAL ISSUES / PROJECT GOAL:::

The fire fight still appears to be happening in regards to this new
project being a commercial application in the OpenSource community.

Yes as always disclosed this is a split / branch from the FlightGear
community and has been set up for a very specific reason.

The core group of users of FlightProSim are males over 45 years of
age. Many of them have very limited computer skills yet love
flying.

They simply want a plug and play game that works.

The commercial applications available fulfill this criteria but
are very expensive due to costly updates / upgrades.

The current OpenSource applications available are free yet an
average user needs a Masters Degree in Computers to get them to
work...

This is and always will be the goal of FlightProSim.

"To create an Open Source Flight Simulator that simply works,
exceeds users expectations and is available at a reasonable
pay once price."

:::ADVANCEMENTS:::

In the new year we have some big plans to ensure the end user
receives a game that is easy for them to use.

With the help of our backers (the current users) we have received
funds to help accomplish this and received some great feedback.

We have had a few pointers from some of the developers who are
interested in contributing to the project.

Ideas for the new year include:

- Better hardware and add-on software interfacing capabilities

- Creating an API that is compatible with SimConnect and/or FSUIPC.

- Incorporation of more photo realistic scenery

- Reducing the lag effect in flying

- Video Tutorials of all aspects of the game for members use

I am sure this list will grow as we become more established and
more developers actually see us as a viable alternative.

So you know we are going to be here a long time, we have a real
reason to exist and are trying to feed a very hungry market.

We have set goals and direction and the financial backing has
already helped to expand the site with the hiring of full time
workers.

Until next time.

Have Fun Flying

Didn't we already achieve the "create a flight simulator that just works" part? :?

yeah, they're just trying to make it seem like they've actually done something to make the sim worth $114.

That "Brand New Launch Control" intrigues me. At first I thought it was another steal of FGo! or a GIT copy of FGRun but the source is completely different. :?

Hmm...

Well, if he actually was interested in helping us out, he'd contribute this new "launch control" back to FlightGear. Considering how he has yet to actually do so, we're not getting it without some serious source hacking.

I'd like to see them do that one without stealing one of our vids and posting it on YouTube.

A closer look at the source reveals what appears to be a cut-and-paste job in the program (I'm not a programmer, but anyone with half a brain knows that a bunch of TODOs = not finished ;) ). I guess he's expecting one of their "developers" to generously finish it for them.
