FGReady2Copy

Postby Michat » Wed Dec 23, 2015 7:36 pm

Howdy all. I wish to share with you this idea born from the user side of the my FG's experience.

1. Problem

I hate to repeat every day the same conversation when user join the flight.

Q1. Are you guys flying?
A1. Yes
Q2. Where are you flying guys?
A2. We are flying in Siberia
Q3. where are you flying to?
A33. We are flying to Yakutia
Q4. What is the airport code?
A4.UEEE
Q5. Okay guys can I join in?
A4. Of course.
Q5. Okay guys just tell me the departure ICAO.
A5. The departure ICAO is UEBT. But is far to our current position.
Q6. Ah okay, just tell me the nearest airport.
A6. Nearest airport is the destination one.
Q7. Okay I'll spawn In....... Can you say the code again, please
A7. Departure UEBT.
Q8. Ah.. thank you.. Can you tell me again de destination
A8. UIEE
Q.9. Roger that spawning. Hey guys what aircraft you flying.
A9. We are flying the white swan tu-160, SUPERSONIC Cat.
Q10. Okay guys I'll respawn with the f-14, cause I have the cessna.
A10. rogaaaar.
Q11. Okay guys can you tell me the airport again.
A11. What airport?, destination or departure?
Q12. Can you tell me de departure please?.
A12. UEBT
Q13. Roger guys, please can you tell me your speed and alt.
A13. Speed Match 1.6 FL 56
Q14. Rgr that I think I'll respwan at destination, can you tell me code again?
A14.UEEE

After spawning............

Q15. Hey guys can you tell me de ETA to the airport?
A15. ETA 1:30.
Q16. Okay guys who wants to fly at Sanfran with f-14s?
A16. LOL =/

And many other ways.

SO....... What about to have a so called FGReady2Copy utility which help to us to exchange the crucial information.

Could be just a text box, with some fields, like a basic FP ,,, and a remark text box to copy some crucial info. Capable to send information in the chat. Or assist to the user who needs to write down quick notes.

I suggested similar thing in different way to resolve blanks communications, it was the info@ICAO method. Using metaversos to get info via chat. But this new one is another thing.

Just click ready to copy, write down, and Spread the info by sent button.

Roughly this is the idea. But I can imagine more useful details, like interQuerys.

Hooray, knowing you :) , you are capable to send me to the canvas, do it if you want, however I'm not the expert to make it possible. :|

Please share comments. If anybody could help with ideas will be wellcome

Indeed, you could start this using the "Canvas Snippets" article on the wiki - you really only need a GUI dialog and add a handful of buttons for messages, or message templates:

http://wiki.flightgear.org/Canvas_Snipp ... Layouts.29
Image

The text could be anything, including a message string like "What is your ETA?".
Next, the underlying callback would be changed/mapped to the multiplayer chat property.

And that's really all of it - takes 5 minutes to prototype using the article and code snippets on the wiki, using just copy & paste.

Just tell him to look at the mpmap.
He can see where you are, your ALT, your speed, all airports around you and what aircraft you fly.

That's what I usually do instead of bugging people with questions that my computer can answer.

Sounds more like an idiot. Not that one excludes the other.

Gentlemen I think none of you has understood the case at all. Because of my poor synthesis style.

Note that the case happens more frequently that you think. But here could looks like a cartoon. However is based in real facts.

So I would not attribute this act to an "stuV,id" person. In fact is pretty common practice in FG.

I'll try to pinpoint to right spot:

I would like to share the idea that:

1. It could very useful to have a FGnotepad (horizontal) where I could write down crucial info (ready to copy- is- ready to copy).

2 Also be able to answer in a easy way the usual question Q2 "what's your 20?" (what's your position)......to........ Qn... (including the mpmapserver url adress)

On an easy fashion. ( Lazier than the laziest).

Hooray, thank for the info. You know, my experience in canvas is very limited, but I did some practices, Open a window instance, place an image, change size and boom, black screen,, uHm lets be honest I'm a programming illiterate, nonetheless I tried to copy and paste some example code, the problem comes when I change some value in order to test code, getting missing myself. Nowadays I have no good PC, the keyboard is dielectric glitching, like writing this post at every moment I'm on risk to lost all the content if I touch the keyboard with two hands. Same reason I can't translate wiki, neither make any mock-up design to share ideas.

One idea to share with you.

If you want guys to copy and paste with keyboard avoiding the hand stack risk.

CONTROL+INS
ALT+INS

Out of the topic I don't know who the hell invent that CONTROL xcv pose. That's is really StuV.id. Like answering the same questions all the time, again and again.

Salutation FG'ers.

CTRL-XCV (at least the C and V) come from way way back in the days of wordstar... likely even as far back as the CPM days... touch-typists love them because they are convenient and out of the way of other keys so that you don't have to lift your hands from the keyboard while pounding out text at 100+ words per minute :wink:

this article at wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cut,_copy,_and_paste) doesn't seem to go back far enough in time though it does cover some early periods... for some reason, a lot if informative places speak only of GUI instead of also including text mode CLI stuffs like was used back in the days of monochrome monitors...

i learned these ""speed keys"" back with Borland's Turbo Pascal 3 and Wordstar... actually, it was Wordstar on CPM first and then later on PC before TP3... there were no function keys or arrow keys on many CPM systems so we used the CTRL keys... at one time CTRL-SEDX was quite common for use in moving the cursor... S=left, E=up, D=right, X=down... they made a plus shape and were easy to get to... again, touch typists love it because you don't have to remove your hands from the home row of the keyboard... i still fall victium at times trying to use things like CTRL-KB, CTRL-KK, CTRL-KS for "block begin", "block end" and "block save"...

NOTE: i may have some of this slightly confused as it has been an eternity since those days when the entire universe of a computer was within the case and you either wrote your own code or just operated someone else's 8)

This is easy to create using a handful of Canvas snippets, and other Nasal tutorials, on the wiki.
My suggestion would be to look at the MP feature, the way "chat" is implemented there, and then hook the whole thing up to a Canvas dialog.
Next, you could allow arbitrary text snippets to be loaded from a PropertyList-encoded XML file and mapped to a few buttons, so that buttons could be clicked to transmit a corresponding MP chat message.

Maybe position, heading and ground speed or TAS could be added to the "chat menu" value substitutes in the Nasal section of fgdata/Dialogs/chat-menu.xml, so that entries could be added to fgdata/ATC/chat-menu-entries.xml* or to a personal preferences file like as below (replace the question marks with value substitutes and tinker with n="5"):

Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<PropertyList>
 <!-- ... -->
 </sim>
  <!-- ... -->
  <multiplay preserve="y">
   <!-- ... -->
   <chat-menu n="0">
    <config n="0">
      <menu n="5"><name>TAS ? kt, MH ? deg, ALT ? ft, pos ?, #</name></menu> <!-- # is a value substitute for /sim/multiplay/callsign -->
    </config>
   </chat-menu>
   <!-- ... -->
  </multiplay>
  <!-- ... -->
 <sim>
 <!-- ... -->
</PropertyList>
