I was getting the message
The sourceforge.net website is temporarily in static offline mode.
Only a very limited set of project pages are available until the main website returns to service.

Now it's
Whoops, we can't find that page.

I'm not sure which is more disconcerting.

Sourceforge.net now seems to be up and running :D I visited a few projects and they all load without errors like they were earlier.

some things are back, yes... not all of flightgear is, though... the code repos are not available and all the projects that i work with are showing that the developer pages are not active at this time... i'd say they still have a lot of restoration to do ;)

Oh, not for me.

The flightgear project for example only loads the basic interface, no repos are available.

It seems to me sourceforge.net is in same non working state is has been for the last 14 hours.

I hope the devs won't hurry and do the aircraft freeze as soon as sourceforge is up again, they should give us some hours to upload our last changes, that we didn't get to do on the 16th.

I think individual aircraft can be pushed right to the release date, the feature freeze only affects code and FGData. FGAddon will get a release version branch though.

I was told some years ago, that aircraft freeze is a month before release.

Is it allowed for us to push to the release version branch? If no, then thats what I mean, that I hope they will wait to create it, so we can get last changes in that the downtime has prevented us from doing.

I'm not quite certain as to the details of how to handle it now, but:

The Release plan only talks about the freeze phase as:

Any change to aircraft may be pushed to the repository if it is guaranteed that this change does not affect any other aircraft or system and if no file outside the root directory of that specific aircraft is changed.

However in Lessons learned from 2.6 we have:

Technically, a feature freeze for aircraft is not necessary as long as this aircraft is not part of the base distribution and no common parts are affected. If it's guaranteed that the changes remain in FGDATA/Aircraft/MyAircraft and no other files are touched, these updates should be OK up to shortly before the release.

All aircraft in the base package are treated like FGData (and frozen), so the c-172p had to be ready ahead of time, but that and the ufo are now the only aircraft remaining there.

I would think that since aircraft are modular and in general under the care of a maintainer, it's up to the maintainer to decide what to do, since he will be responsible in case of problems. The discussion I remember revolved around providing a window for aircraft developers who do not use the core development branch to install a release candidate, ensure the aircraft works well with the release candidate and have a tested and running aircraft before the release. We basically should support this rather than trust our luck in these cases that the RC does not break important features.

But the official statements are what I quoted - to be sure, perhaps inquire on the list.

It seems the list of software in the mentioned blog post more or less is meant to debunk speculation similar to that of the reddit comment.
