Current Version ??

Postby minerbog » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:34 am

Hi All,

My main reason for joining was to ask what appears to be a simple question. What is the current version of Flightgear as of November 2013??

The reason I ask is according to the website flightgear.org in the 'download section', the latest release is version 2.12. Now, further down in the 'download older versions' section, it states an older version is 2.8!!

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but do version numbers increase with the later versions???

Please help a confused bunny!

Regards,

Gav.

Hi,

2.8 is indeed older than 2.12.
"2.8" doesn't means "2.80", so as long as "eight" is less than "twelve", yes 2.12 is the later version. I agree that 2.12 liters of milk is less than 2.8 liters of milk, but here we are in software :)

However we got similar confusion after the "2.10" version (some people was reading "2.1") that's why the version number scheme has been modified and soon we will bump to version 3.0
Then 3.2, 3.4, 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, 4.0, 4.2 .... 4.8, 5.0 .... That way it should make more sense for people, at least we hope ;)

Regards,
Clément

Ahhh I see. Never really seen that before. I've always seen minor release numbers go up to 9 then a major release, but yes it make sense now.

Thank you
