Wiki confirmation email

Postby E-HEC » Mon Jan 28, 2013 4:36 pm

Hi everyone,
I don't know if this is the right forum but I didn't find another place to ask.

I tried to contribute in the flightgear wiki. It was no problem to create the account. But in my Preferences-Page I find following line:

E-mail confirmation: Your e-mail address is not yet authenticated. No e-mail will be sent for any of the following features.
Confirm your e-mail address

If I try to confirm my email address I get the following message:

Confirm e-mail address
A confirmation code has already been e-mailed to you; if you recently created your account, you may wish to wait a few minutes for it to arrive before trying to request a new code.

Thats more than an hour ago. I still didn't get the email. So I would be grateful if anybody could help me.

Hi,

nice to see you're interested in contributing to the wiki! We recently moved to a new server, so that might explain why you didn't get an email. I'll forward your report to the wiki admin, so he can have a look.

Cheers,
Gijs

Hi E-HEC,

I've just tested the procedure for creating a new account and I did receive the confirmation email request.

Can you check that your email address is correct, check your spam folder and/or maybe try resending it via http://wiki.flightgear.org/Special:ConfirmEmail

If you still don't get it, let me know and I'll confirm you manually.

Thanks,
Simon

Hi Simon,

the email-address is correct,
my spam-folder is empty,
resending doesn't change anything.

I don't know what's wrong.

Thank you for your help,
Christian

Not here. I sent an e-mail more than one week ago to hellosimon with no reply yet nor any improvement of the situation. I hope my mail did not get eaten by some spam filter?

That might be because hotmail accounts are easy to create and often used for spam, since a virtual airline called deltava.org I joined doesn't accept hotmail or yahoo.
Hope you get your issues sorted out!

To dust of this topic: I've registered on the wiki some days ago and sent myself a number of confirmationcodes, but none got throug. Strangely enough, the same email address works like a charm when I just registered here.
Can a wiki admin please have a look at it? I'm not using hotmail or any other "suspicious" account.

The name I used on the wiki is the same as here.

Goedenavond Maarten,

nice to see you're interested in contributing to the wiki! Looking at the logs I can see emails getting stuck, including those to your address. I've forwarded your report to our main wiki admin, so he can take a look and hopefully fix it shortly. In the mean time, I hope the forum is a nice addition (not really a replacement) to your FlightGear experience ;-)

Cheers,
Gijs

Sorry Maarten, that's not good. I've sent another request to the wiki admin. If I don't hear back from him I'll see if I can fix it myself, but I'm not that intimately familiar with the wiki server, so I prefer not to.

Edit: The admin is aware of the issue now. He'll try to fix it over the weekend.

PS: Noticed you're Dutch, so just in case you're interested: this weekend there's FSweekend at Lelystad Airport. The biggest flightsim event in the world. FlightGear will be represented by a group of developers (myself included). You're welcome to pay us a visit if you like, it's a nice opportunity to see what's going on in the flightsim world and of course to meet faces behind usernames. :-)

He fixed it over the weekend, so you should be good to go now. Please let me know if it still doesn't work.

Yeah, not much active here. I just tested the confirmation and it works. Sorry to miss the FS weekend. Been reading about previous ones and I'll try to keep an eye on the next one.
