New World Scenery Torrent - yes!

Postby chris_blues » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:02 am

Hello!

I hope I've hit the right subforum!

I want to know why there is no torrent download for World Scenery. The last one is labeled 1.0.1 and is quite old. I've downloaded the whole scenery from the mirror servers, unpacked it all, packed it into one big "World-Scenery-2011-12-13.tar.gz" and would start it. Unless...

Is there any reason I shouldn't? Is there a reason, FlightGear offers only DVD-sales? (personally, I hate this waste of material, but I like the "sponsor a child" idea)

Please let me know! Thx!

cheers
chris

I'd suggest to get in touch with martin, he's the one responsible for all scenery-related stuff - he can certainly tell you if it's a good idea or why it shouldn't be done right now.
Personally, I fully agree that torrents should be used - and I think this has been raised a number of times already. But obviously, it's possible that there are things happening behind the scenes, which we are not aware of. So better to coordinate that with the scenery guys.

Thanks & all the best,

Well, one week later, I decided to start the torrent after all. Now, is there anyone with an account for ibiblio.org? Because I thought it might be good to get it to the same site, where all the other torrents are...
Here's the torrent-file; it just needs to be uploaded to ibiblio.org. The tracker "http://tracker.ibiblio.org/announce" is already in it.
http://musicchris.de/public_pics/Flight ... 13.torrent
The download size of the content is about 12.2 GiB! So it may take quite a while to get the swarm going, having only about 100 kB/s upload speed... :-/

Anyway, please post here, if you have an ibiblio account and would upload it for me.
Thx and happy sharing :)

chris

edit:
meanwhile I'm waiting for response (I assume, everybody's busy getting 2.6 ready), I already seed this torrent above. As long as there's no registration for ibiblio.org, it should still work, using VHT, meaning it's decentralized, without tracker... So feel free to leech.
My lady keeps switching off my computer, so be patient, if I should be offline... :)
