And wait, is it just 2.2? Not a FG3?
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

Version numbers are pretty arbitrary. What we call it doesn't change the fact that the content of the release will contain all the developments for the past year. Version numbers are useful primarily for marketing and hyping your product. People might be conditioned to imagine that a v3 would contain more improvements compared to a v2.2 when the previous release was v2.0 ... but the content of the next FlightGear release will be the same whatever arbitrary number we give it.

For the purposes of distinguishing releases, we just need numerically increasing numbers.

If our main purpose in selecting version numbers was marketing hype, we'd probably call it FlightGear XI or FlightGear SX (almost suggestive there, sorry) :-) or FlightGear Super-Pro-Extreme-3000. :-)

So, should I wait with getting GIT untill FG 2.2 comes or will it take so long time that I can install it now and then it will be no problems? I don't know if it's hard or if there's any problems with installing GIT and then FG and so on...

If you're on Ubuntu, Debian or any derivatives of those there's a script that lets you download, compile and install FlightGear locally.

Also, I have noticed that in Git, the "About" dialog now says FlightGear 2.2.0 rather than FlightGear <build date>. I wonder if that's true in today's update...

(Y'know, maybe I could make a Daily Builds PPA for people on *buntu that do not feel they can build something, even with a script performing the everything for them and want to use the latest FlightGear from Git :P )

I have another question. Is all the new scenery that has been or being developped to be included in the new release??? Or do we have to download it seperately. I'm very new in the Flightgear world and to be honest a bit overwhelmed.

Only the San Francisco Bay Area is included in the standard (downloadable) package. Additional scenery is available through the normal ways (TerraSync, Scenemodels database). Do note that airport layouts and terrain require a new scenery build to take effect (and it is not likely that there will be a new build at the time of the 2.2.0 release...). But as our scenery is mostly independant of the FG version and not included in the standard package (except for SFO); it does not matter that much...

There are currently only two blockers in the FG bug tracker and soon after these are fixed there should be a release of 2.2.0. So this could happen any day now.

Current GIT and what is released when 2.2.0 comes out are going to be almost exactly the same other than a few bug fixes. So you can install GIT and then 2.2.0 on top of it and everything should be fine.

I see only one now. And that needs someone with JSBSim-knowledge! Any Volunteer?
