Will flight gear be on mobile?

Postby I love flying » Wed Nov 17, 2021 11:57 am

I would be happy if it's on mobile, what are the challenges and needs of flightgear on mobile.
Flying is so magical, just hearing the hum of the engines as I plow through the blue yonder...

Not an expert on anything mobile. Those are just the points I can think of out of the top of my head:
* Handeling control input
* Storage size (global base scenery is about 100GB, osm2city it self requires significantly more)
* In some cases performance of the device. (Some are running it on a raspberry pi so it can clearly be run on low end hardware... but there are compromises to make, even new desktop machines can have their struggles under certain circumstances)
* Main issue is contributors tho. There needs to be someone who puts in the effort into making things run and maintaining the apps.

There's a whole lot of changes doing so.

I feel that article is partially out of date. Now a days, there are full fledged computer version MMORPG apps on Google Play for smartphones like RuneScape. Furthermore, Google Earth is available as an app on the Play Store. So I do not think graphics is the issue at hand, but rather file storage. But then again, cellphones released in the 2020s and later now come with internal storage going up 500GB even. So...... Now it's only a question about how the controls will be done.
