Date of release 2020.4

Postby DavidTruji » Tue Feb 02, 2021 5:11 pm

Hello everyone, I am a fan of this simulator for many years, and I am very interested to know if the release 2020.4 has an approximate release date.

I've been testing the nightlies versions of this release, and loved them.

I saw the release plan, but I don't know if it refers to 2020.3.X or a new 2021.1

"Current release: 2020.3 (6 Nov 2020)
Next release: 2021.1 (-0 days from now)
See release plan for details."

there is no approximate release date, AFAIK... there isn't even a 2021.anything version yet... the latest release is 2020.3.6 and the current development code is wearing 2020.4 as its version...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

The next version has so many high level changes that it was predicted to take up to two years to settle. In the mean time there will be no new release.

That said, development looks to go smoothly so it might take (much) less time after all.

Better late than buggy, though. ;)

There is likely to be intermediate preview releases and also bugfixes to the "Long Term Stable" 2020.3 version -- there have already been 6 such bugfix updates :)

the side panel says you are running ubuntu so the easiest method is to use the download_and_compile.sh (aka dnc) script to clone the repositories and compile the binaries on your system... dnc has a method built into it that pulls the data from an official mirror repo and then switches to the main repo...

be sure you have plenty of open drive space available and start here Scripted Compilation on Linux Debian/Ubuntu or here For the impatient... the second one is part of the first one...

Personally, I did not notice any major errors. In my opinion 2020.4 runs more efficiently on my old hardware and Arch Linux
