Download page partly broken?

Postby D-ECHO » Fri Feb 21, 2020 9:43 am

Hey,
it seems like the download page at https://www.flightgear.org/download/ has some problems, it shows like this:

(Especially note the [column] tags ;) )

I see those tags as well (with an up to date Firefox web browser). Have sent Curtis a mail. He is one of three who seem to have access to the website.

Now https://www.flightgear.org/download/ points to 2018.3.5 version, which, what is very interesting, was uploaded on 02.04.2020 according to sourceforge(?)

The naming is weird. I'm personally using the nightlies, as I like to have the latest features :)

Kind Regards,

some fixes may have been backported to 2018.3.5 since it is the latest LTS (Long Term Support) version of FG...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

https://www.flightgear.org/download/download-aircraft/

I see no aircraft in download page: I have used several browsers. This is Firefox 71.0 (64-bit). Also tried Chromium Version 83.0.4103.61 (Official Build) Built on Ubuntu , running on LinuxMint 19.3 (64-bit) still not showing aircraft.

Anything I can do to help fix this? AIrcraft is the first thing new users look at, and we should have a list of aircraft that work with a particular version... maybe I will do this.

Legacy site link is broken also...

That's on purpose. You're encouraged to use the launcher to download aircraft, as explained on the site. For those not using the launcher, a link to the raw packages is provided.

If you're using very old versions of FlightGear (which new users should not be doing), you're pretty much on your own. The project doesn't have the resources to keep supporting decade old versions. You can, however, still find some on the ftp, e.g. http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/f ... aft-1.9.1/

The Launcher inside Flight Gear 2018 does not show aircraft, I have updated the aircraft link. I have to launch aircraft from command line in that one.

Would be nice to see images of aircraft, even a gallery. Think of it, a link to aircraft that shows no aircraft.

Very much on my own with FG1, I realize, I use the above site for downloading aircraft. Hope that site lasts forever.

Supporting old versions is one thing, but forward compatibility of aircraft models is something that could be documented.
