Beechcraft 1900D  Topic is solved

Using the autopilot is an important thing when flying airliners.

I can't figure out the autopilot (or route manager, for that matter). Is there a tutorial for the newest version of the 1900D?

Haven't flown this one in a while, but IIRC, it's not really "done" yet (and I don't think there's been substantial development recently). AFAIK, you need to hold the autopilot buttons for 1/4 second to activate them, but even then, it doesn't work very well, and the route manager, I think, doesn't work at all.

If you want to fly a turboprop airliner, the Q400 series is a better bet and has seen huge improvements lately.

OTOH, if people are willing to throw some effort at the 1900D, I'd be willing to contribute.

Thanks for your honest answer. I thought it was just me. I wish I could add a workable AP/RM/FD to a Seneca II. I love the Citation, but the FD kills the AP and it crashes every time at DH.

I'll try the Q400. Thanks!

Huh? That has a pretty realistic AP as far as I am aware - the maintainer flew a real Seneca II and measured the AP response directly from the real thing.

Dear Thorsten,
I might question how that was done with a PID control system. I took a look at the file and it looks to be a regular PID setup. I am guess he made a graph analysis of the actual yoke response and attempted a same PID response here? That is the only solution I can think of that makes any sense. Regardless, I saw a few mistakes syntax wise that might affect that behaviors also.

Dear tfreriks,
I agree. Whoever designed the AP in the Citation clearly did not read the manuals! In my spare time I am work with Sascha to correct this, but be aware that my personal projects takes priorities!

Kind Regards,
Josh

I need some time on the AP/FD for the Q400, but I think it will be better. At least it doesn't crash at DH. It doesn't follow the Route Manager too well, though.

Thorsten: Yes, the AP in the Seneca is great. I really meant a Route Manager that the AP can read.

@tfreriks
Wrong, I designed the new A/P for it and it follows it perfectly (unless it was broken by the updates done to it). Where did you get the Q400 from? This one I suggesting on FGAddon trunk (or D-ECHO github)

It was the 3.2 release. How do I get the updated 1900D and Citation without adding everything in the hangar?

I don't think the real plane AP provides that function - so it is not implemented.

flightgear v3.2 was released 2014 Oct 15... you really should update to the latest available version... many bugs have been fixed and a lot of new features have been added... craft updated since that release date may easily NOT work properly if they are using new features or trying to use old capabilities that have been removed/changed...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Hi!

After having read this topic, I had to take a flight on the Seneca. Haven't flown it for a while, can tell you, it was GREAT AGAIN!
Anyway, as we're talking about APs and turboprops, the best turboprop by far with the best AP by far is the AN-24B. Can tell you, because I'm totally subjective on that matter!
Seriously, all the numbers of that AP were taken from technical descriptions and RL test numbers.
Ciao,

Adrian
