How to engage autopilot on Embraer ERJ 145?

I got into FlightGear a few weeks ago coming from X-Plane mobile and I have not been able to figure out how to activate autopilot on this aircraft. Based on my experience from the 737, I would expect these autopilot settings to fly it at heading 50 and FL 30.

However, the plane doesn't do anything to control itself in this mode whether I am actively moving my controls (I tried joystick and mouse) or not. I also tried reading an online manual for the ERJ 145 autopilot (for the real aircraft, not the sim) and I don't see anything I'm doing wrong. The cockpit APR, BNK, CPL, and FLC buttons also don't toggle when I click them; not sure if this is related. I'm guessing it's a simple problem such as a master switch not activated. I doubt there's an issue with the aircraft model itself as the rest is so well made.
