Of course you can! And welcome to FlightGear.
Thanks for your interest in the 787; this aircraft is the result of several contributors, and for several years. When I had it for the first time, I too noticed its very nice cockpit and instrumentation.
I can't have a good response to all of your questions, but I'll try at least for some of them.

1: in the 777-200 I can set a bank limit and this helps me do a half standard turn when doing a holding/intercept. I cant find how to set this on the 787-8

In the 787, the bank limit is set at 30 deg in the autopilot. It is not selectable.

2: for a week I've been swearing and cursing because I have to click the HDG/ALT buttons like mad when I want to do a 180 turn (ok admitadly I just discovered a middle click accellerates this but for a 180 turn I'm still looking at 18 clicks.... VS the 777-200 which allows you to just hold the left click and watch the numbers turn) .... what am I missing?

I don't understand. When I hold the left or middle click on IAS, HDG or Altitude, the numbers turn after about 1 second....

5: what does enabling the flight director do? I've noticed slightly less steep banks on turns I think...?

The flight director makes the aircraft follow your path via Fixes, NDB and VOR radials, at the altitudes you have entered. It drives the autopiilot which itself drives the aircraft. So, the bank angle limits are those of the autopilot (30 deg).
(be careful, the flight director is still in development and it's sometime tricky to make it work properly, e.g. for the first waypoint)

.... its really slow and hard when yer trying to adjust rudder at the same time as watching the screen+keyb at once...

The first thing I got was rudder pedals, for realism, mainly on small aircrafts (I think the mouse is not that bad for the yoke). But rudder pedals are rather expensive and that may not be enough to completely solve your "more to do than fingers" problem....

I wish you many pleasant flights,
Cheers,

Dany

I'll take a look at it when I return home-currently away from home, will be back in around 5 hours. Maybe I'll be able to see what he means by "rough." After dinner I'll try making a lightmap, as I have done for the CRJ-200.

The mentioned 777 and 787 in the bug report works like a dream to me here. If there is no pilot error behind I guess that it maybe has something to do with the used Ubuntu-script and the automatic compiling. Maybe some others you uses this script can tell more.

Interesting. I'll still do a test flight, just to check with my own feelings.

So one thing-how is development going on mixing together lightmap and reflection shaders? I was hoping to have both on the 787 and CRJ-200. I also want to know why the screenshotter doesn't work in Git.

Is there any? If not I vote for for a mixing together with the bump-spec-reflection shader.

For the screenshotter: idid you enable multi-threading in your preferences.xml? If so, then it indeed not work.

There is no development on that part, at least not by me. It is certainly possible, just a matter of adding some extra codes to a new .eff file (similar to how bumpspec and reflection were merged in one .eff)...

Not just changing the .eff-files, but changing the whole shader .frag and .vert. Merging .eff-files doesn't help.

Hey peeps! Haven't posted here in a while. That would make sense, I was busy running sound for the school musical, which was eating up my weeks and weekends. And when I wasn't doing that, I played a lot of Minecraft. It'll take a while for me to get back into full work amounts, because of things like school and such. But I'll try to do what I can.

Tomorrow I'll try finishing up the CRJ-200, and maybe add a bit more to the OHP. Then I'll try to release it. There is currently a position available for someone to make realistic wing textures for the CRJ-200, because of the fact that they are now on a separate mapping. Of course, realistic doors and rivet lines for the whole thing wouldn't be bad, either... ;)

I came across (FDM) data for the 787 and thought it would be good to share:

Current: Parachutist, Paraglider, Pterosaur, Pilatus PC-9M and variants, ERCO Ercoupe, Fokker Dr.1, Fokker 50, Fokker 100
Less active: Cessna T-37, T-38, Santa Claus. Previous: General Dynamics F-16. Worked on: Wright Flyer

What a find! With that kind of information, it would be best to switch over to JSBSim.

Hi Nick,

I wouldn't helping especially since it's a Canadian plane  but it could be a while. I have been busy with the de Havilland stuff and trying to learn Blender so I can re-map the Twin Otter, but I'll see what I can do. :D

Hm...maybe once I've released the new mapping and the lightmap, you can help me with the cockpit somehow.

Hi Nick,

I haven't touched a cockpit design yet, I could better help you with the rivet and line layers once the UV map is done.
