Harald Johnsen's Cessna 150 - Interested in paintkit ?

Postby paularx » Mon Jan 28, 2008 12:20 am

Good day to everyone,

First of all, Thanks to Harald Johnsen for a very nice model of the 150 -
great job all round, she's a beauty.

I'm in the process of making a photoreal repaint for this Cessna, using the Gimp and having the detail such as panel lines, rego numbers, shadows, soiling etc. on separate layers. Would Mr. Harald / Others be
interested in this type of thing ?

I have only very recently discovered Flightgear and am quite impressed, however I do believe we can significantly up the eyecandy starting with high-detail paints for the aircraft models. I also am wondering about the transparent parts (window glass) - does FG support reflective textures ? (e.g. moving translucent chrome maps)

Many thanks again for the 150, am enjoying this little bird enormously.

Paul.

Hi Paul,

welcome here. Activities for FlightGear are always acceptable. I like the C150 as it is very common at all the small airfields around my hometown - and therefore nice to sim-fly from this locations in FG.

Though not compulsive for a repaint I think it is good style to post on the FG developers list and ask the maintainer of the aircraft if there are any objections. Sometimes you will get no reply as there is no active maintainer anymore, this is the same as an approval.

Looking forward to your repaint!
Regards

Thanks Heliflyer, I'll try that. I've taken some nice screenshots - view them here-> Image
I still have a long way to go, but I'm pleased with the result so far - please feel free to comment / critique. :D

Woow, that looks awsome!
Except from the windows and the tail, but I know for sure you'll fix that!!
Keep on going!

Looks very nice, I can't wait for the finished product! It's cool that you added the FG logo, but I'm not sure it "fits" with the rest of the paint well. That would be my only critique.

I think the logo blends in very well.

I don't think so. I'm not asking permission...
btw, isn't it some kind of advertisemend for the airlines?

Thank you gents for the kind words of encouragement, its much appreciated.

Since I cannot build aircraft or afford to fly the real ones, I'll just paint the sim planes and try to add something of value to Flightgear.

For now, I am working on the inside of the Cessna (Panel, Rudder Pedals, seat textures etc.) - I'll post some new shots soon.

About the glass - this seems to be just a transparent poly - that means I cannot repaint it :( And about the Tail.... well it kind of grows on you - and a bit of a homage to FG is never amiss ;-)

Keep well, more pics soon.

Ok then....
but which one is better performance wise :
1: An Aircraft with changeble liveries while fg is running like the heli(bo105)
2: An aircraft with choice of livery at aircraft selection(Like 787)

The first is easier to use, but the second is showed at other computers when multiplaying (I thought that didn't work with the first option)...
