That's exactly what FlightGear lacks, unfortunately. Lights that actually help you SEE something...

Note; Before anyone is disappointed, this feature will only work under 2.2/Git.

Nah it'll be ok, have the developer snapshot now, can use Git. :D

I am thinking of removing the autostart for the next release. Any thoughts?

I have the opposite opinion. If people have no idea how to start up the plane, then they probably shouldn't be flying it.

how about making a download for people who DO NOT know how to start up the plane and leave the autostart out of the development release?

How about they spent a bit of time learning how the things work if they want to fly it?

Posting some instructions on the wiki should be hard. In fact, startup procedures from MSFS aircraft will work (mostly).

And I'm already planning on 2 different downloads for Git users and 2.0.0 users. We don't need ANOTHER download/version... remember 6 months ago?

I have to agree with Ampere on this one.

Maybe this will help reduce the amount of annoying pilots on multiplayer that purposely crash near you, and fly erratically. If it took them a few minutes to start the engines, they wont want to crash because it would not be worth having to reset and do the whole start up all over again.

Just a theory.

Make people good readers. Put a good help menu, and appropiate documentation on the wiki...

Please don't. I hate having to go through all that just to get a plane moving. Please leave the option to autostart. Sometimes I just want to get in and fly.

+ 1
Try flying on the East Coast of the United States more often. There are many improved airports that people scarcely use. You might find me somewhere near JFK (or BWI, IAD, ATL, RIC, BOS...)

Fly safe.

Well I have just committed an engine startup tutorial, which should help new users figure out how to start the engines. I'll write some documentation on the wiki as well, when the upcoming release is made.
