Re: Fokker 100 Cockpit?

Postby Armchair Ace » Sun Aug 01, 2010 6:14 pm

Well, it seems that nobody was developing the good old '100, so I went ahead and cobbled together a rudimentary cockpit.

I'm still adding more instruments and other gizmos, so expect more (illustrated) updates! :D

(Yes, I also know that the cockpit isn't accurate to the last millimetre, nor, for that matter, are some instruments of the right colour. Right now, I'm not terribly bothered about that.)

After another few hours of continuous tweaking, the cockpit can be used for night IFR!

I would like to thank Buckaroo for giving me permission to use his instruments in this cockpit. Thanks, Gary! :D

When I first started downloading aircraft for FlightGear, the Fokker 100 was one of my favorites. Maybe I'll start flying it again with these improvements.
Personal Fleet: 787-8, CRJ-200, 737-300, MD-81, DHC-3A, Beechcraft Starship
New hangar!
Curent projects: New 787, New CRJ-200, DC-9, New 777-200ER FDM

Thanks, Nick!

Here's the third update. The changes to the cockpit are a little more subtle this time. I've added overhead panels which control lights, generators, the APU, and the battery, as well as adjusting the right-hand engine panel to measure EPR and Fuel Flow. I also added some more decorations to the central pedestal thingy.

I also added Nav, Landing, Tail and (not working properly, but nevertheless rather bright) Strobe lights.

I will definitely have a release ready by the 20th of August - promise!

Quick Note : The overhead panel is going to be more or less completely fictional. Many of the features in the real OHP of a Fokker 100 have not been implemented in FG anyway (I don't know how to, either.), so this isn't exactly a huge loss.

Quick Note 2 : I have added Fire Extinguisher Switches to the panel. I have configured the extinguishers so that they don't just switch the 'fire-bottle-discharge property from 'false' to 'true', but I have configured the extinguishers so that they shut down the engines when used. After all, that is what would happen in real life if you pumped the combustion chamber of a jet engine full of fire retardant (At least that's what I think happens - if you knock one out one of the three components of the fire triangle (in this case air/combustible gas), the fire stops. Hmm... (confused) :?.

... and on a slightly less confusing point, I've made Air France (Brit Air) and Mexicana (Old Scheme) liveries for the F100.

Now I'm confused, you're doing F100 liveries and you've asked me to do an AirUK :?
Why can't you do it :?:

I'm awfully sorry if I confused you, Gooneybird. I made those liveries as they were fairly easy to make (the Air France one didn't need that much painting. Just 'borrow' some logos from other GPL'ed Air France Liveries, add the Brit Ar logo, and hey presto) The AirUK one is one I tried to make but ended up making a complete pig's ear of.

That's why I was asking you to make an AirUK livery, as I thought you'd be able to make the AirUK livery without making a mess of it like I did.

I hope that clears things up a little.

Regarding the OHP, there's more can be modelled than you might think - obviously the lighting and engine controls, but also the electrical panel - though very few aircraft get this right at the moment. I'm not talking about a full electrical simulation, but tracking which sources (battery, engine gen 1+2, APU and external power) are available and being used.

Nice to see the -100 moving forwards!

Battery, Generator and APU controls are now on the OHP - thanks for the advice! :)

OK, now I understand 8)

It may take a little while, I have a few things to finish first then a bit more research to do.

Is the mapping also going to change? Cause I recently made a KLM Cityhopper livery

If there's one thing I'm least likely to change, that's the texture mapping! :)
Nice livery, by the way!
