Split off from the topic Bell AH-1 Cobra[Released V 1.2].

Hello guys, i am a real pilot of this beast and working on its simulation for my self. I have msc degree in aerospace engineering. I know this is an dead topic but i really wish to have an updated model. Where can i found it? I searched the forum but the links seems old or broken to me. Thanks for help.

I would really like to see what you could do with something like this. We are always looking for pilots with "real life" experience to help with the modelling of the flight dynamics of aircraft for flight gear and to provide feedback.

Note that there is also a JSBSim FDM available:

I am also excited to work talented guys as you are. I have a lot of experience about flight dynamics modelling in matlab/simulink thanks to my masters degree. Dont think me as just a pilot, i am also an engineer. Flightgear community is great. I am so sad about not joining earlier.

Thanks for sharing and your good willing. I would like to revoke this model updating process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We can form up a new team. I can afford some of the expenses too if needed.

Thats for the Single engine S version not the twin engine W

I hadn't realized there are two variants with the same name but with different configurations. Usually they go by a different name then.

It is one-engine model S, we need two-engine W model.
As i know, JSBSim is more accurate than YASim. Is it possible to model two engine helicopter with JSBSim?

Ps. I have full scaled 3D scanned AH-1W cad model, also all technical and flight manuals.

JSBSim can handle as many engines as necessary, but in this case they probably need to operate at the same shaft so that might need some extra logic.

Is the 3d model yours, what licence does it use ?

And yes two turbines can be linked into one rotor gearbox through centrifugal clutches.

If you are prepared to use the CC licence, which working with FGUK (correct me if I'm wrong) you'd be doing so. You could also check out Bombers helicopter work on FGMembers which is also in CC

Could I suggest as you've experience in helicopters to check out the flight characteristics of his jsbsim Huey vs the yasim Huey and report back

regards

Thanks for reply, i own the model cos' all scanning and modelling costs paid by me. Every single dot of the model belongs to me :) But using the solid CAD model for flight dynamics derivations (e.g CFD analysis) is a better option. As i saw, there are much better visual 3D models. My model's aerodynamic surfaces are quite accurate.
As i new in the community i am not familiar with the terms such as FGMembers, Bombers etc. Also i have no idea about how FG licensing works :) I will take a look.

I will try both models soon. So, who is helping me about the W model?

"And yes two turbines can be linked into one rotor gearbox through centrifugal clutches." is there a documentation for this process?

A helicopter is not really an aerodynamic object, in that I mean it doesn't generate lift from a surface, unlike a plane with it's wings.

So CFD will only give you the drag as a 'useful' value, I caveat this because as the planes top speed (sea level) and weight are known you actually know it's drag as it's got to be equal to the total rotor thrust - weight, ie the thrust vector that is not keeping the plane level.

What i mean with surfaces is:
Main rotor blades, tail rotor blades, wings, horizontal stabilizer, vertical fin.
