Also, you're in for a wild ride. Modelling an aircraft for FlightGear (or any sim for that matter) is a lot of work, and especially something as complex as a modern airliner or bizjet is going to be a gargantuan task. And that's just ONE aircraft; "some of my favorite jets" is something that can easily keep you occupied for years.

If you're serious about this, I would suggest you start by joining one of the ongoing efforts, or pick up one of the many abandoned efforts that float around in fgaddon and elsewhere, before making something from scratch all on your own. It'll show you how people do things, what works, what doesn't, what to watch out for, etc.

truth be told, one craft can take several years... especially if it is done properly and everything the craft can do is modeled...

It's interesting you say even a single plane can takes years of work for an individual.

You'd expect someone that committed to the flight gear project to have a respectful amount of input into the direction that Flightgear goes in.

Sure, but that has nothing to do with it, and doesn't change the simple fact that making an aircraft model for FG, or any other sim for that matter, is a huge amount of work.

there's also a huge difference between a craft developer and a sim developer... just like the difference between one who can make good 3D models and one who makes good FDMs... they all swim in different ponds...

Well I think we all swim in the same waters... some in the shallows, some in the deep water, some in the surf.

We're all swimmers, respect the swimmers

And then there are the frogs - they are able to hop from one pond to another.

Hi Alexthepilot

A few years ago I created two small tutorials, if it can be useful to you (It was still Blender 2.49 but the principles remain the same) :
