Beechcraft B58 Baron Development

Postby awall86 » Sun Nov 22, 2020 12:19 pm

This was my first plane developed for X-Plane, twelve years ago. Now I'm I'm converting it, to be used in Flightgear.

There is still a lot of work to do, but the plane is already flying in Flightgear :D

That's wonderful, thanks for your work and deciding to port it to FG. May I ask what license are you planning for it?

IMHO, most important is licence for X-P. If is not GPL2 compatible, OP has problem.

Awall said he was the author.
So the license should be his own decision, basically.

I'm original and unique author of that B58 Baron for X-plane published in x-plane.org ten years ago, after 3 years of hard work:

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/f ... -baron-58/

In fact, I've 5 freeware aircrafts developed for X-plane and published in x-plane.org:

http://www.alcala-sim.com/Products.htm

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/p ... loads_file

The Baron will be the first model ported to Flightgear. I have the original development files of both this model and the other 4 published models (Blender files and textures)

This aircraft will be published under GNU/GPL license.

This plane uses some textures of original X-plane instruments, and I cannot use it. All these textures must be drawn again by me, to comply with the license GNU/GPL.

I still have a long job ahead.

Let us know if you need help with redoing those textures, also, do you have it in a repository by any chance?

I'm redoing the panel layout, and seeing which avionics will be definitive. I wil create the git repo as soon as X-Plane proprietary images was unmapped from the Blender file, and completelly deleted from textures, to comply with GNU/GPL license.

If you wonder why we are a bit inquisitive and suspicious, it is because we have in the past seen people suddenly make marvelous improvements in their projects that later turn out to be because they in their impatience stole a model and textures somewhere. We do not like to add such work to the official hangar due to the legal liability that would come with that. :(

Seeing that you have published the model with the same username somewhere else helps relieve that suspicion quite a bit, so please go ahead. :D

I fully understand your point of view. During all these years, I have suffered several cases of use of these models without my authorization, when the EULA document was perfectly clear about it. But luckily I have also received many requests for legal use. In these cases, I have even sent those who have asked me, a copy of the Blender source files for their modification.

I continue to maintain and pay for the http://www.alcala-sim.com domain every year, so that these planes are not lost. Why alcala-sim? Because it is derived from Alcalá de Henares, the city where I live.

It took me a lot of time and hard work to make them, I have learned a lot with them, but my time as a developer in X-Plane has already ended a few years ago, when big commercial companies made their breakthrough, and X-Plane became big business. I am an amateur, and the quality of my models, no matter how much effort I made to improve that quality, could never compete with commercial companies such as Carenado or Aerosoft.

Now I want to share them with the Flightgear community, to continue the philosophy for which they were created: Free, and for everyone. If I have to share them, I prefer it to be in an open source and collaborative project like Flightgear.

This makes me, and I'm sure many of us here very happy, I wish more people would see it the way you do. Respect.
