There you go:

https://github.com/John-Bray/VC10_mods

Should be enough to get started. Will need some tweaks at some point, I'm sure.

I only use use AC3D so I wouldn't know what to do with a blender file - but thanks anyway.

All is well here apart from the weather - it is really dreadful at the moment.

All the best.

That ws quick. Let us see how we get on with it.
It is cold here to, and the local mountain has opened its ski slopes. Mind you, at the weekend, they must close at 1pm due to lock-down, so there is not much point.

I have re-jigged the external engine nacelle mapping for taking registration/airline/ stripes etc. It's in GitHub together with a starter Photoshop template.

The ski slopes are also open here, for limited numbers but my skiing days are long gone. They are only 24km away from me, in a straight line, but probably over two and a half hours by road. There is a 3482m mountain in between - which means quite a detour.

Sure you will be aware of this but, thinking of others:

Warty. Thanks for the update.
vc10.net is very helpfull, especially when he realised that I worked on the plane in my youth.
Your mountain is higher than ours - just 1993. m
Take care

Highest mountain in the Iberian Peninsula, apparently, but not the highest one in Spain.

Good sources for panel line ideas for the livery template?
https://www.super-hobby.com/products/Vickers-Super-VC10-K4.html
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235004844-vickers-super-vc10-tanker-k3-roden-327-1144/

I would suggest that we work on getting one livery only done and ensuring the texture mapping is spot-on for that one before doing any more.

I'm looking forward to this being finished :)
I had a look at the .ac file and while it looks good there are a number of normals facing the wrong way. If you use 3D viewer https://karelse.home.xs4all.nl/3DViewer/ It will show you the problematic faces.
Not sure if it will help but I've posted my AI VC-10 files on Github https://github.com/gooneybird47/Vickers-VC-10 these are the first test files (plus paintkit) and still very much work in progress so may change in the future.

Landing gear texture-mapped:

@gooneybird - yes there are a number of normal issues in the original .ac file - I am working my way through them 8)

Wow, things are moving fast.
I have put my Blender stuff, with reference images on github at https://github.com/alanjt/VC10-Blender.git
The key image is RAF-Type1106.jpg which I found on an aircraft modelling forum. It is used by several commercial model kits. I believe that it was originally printed in Aeromodeller, and can be found in a 1988 paperback book "Aircraft Archive; Post-War Jets Vol 3". It may be of use when making panel and rivet details.
The wrong facing normals will have their origins in my erratic Blender skills. The Blender has separate collections which can be used to get .ac files having different scopes. i.e. if the collection cockpit.ac is the only one selected then a cockpit .ac model will be exported.

You posted the wrong link but I found it ;)
They are the same plans I used, They came out of one of my old Aeromodeller magazines from either the 60's or 70's. The magazines are long gone but I kept most of the scale plans.

Whoops.
I have changed the link, it should be OK now. https://github.com/alanjt/VC10-Blender.git.

My present VC10 model is of the prototype aircraft. The main difference from later wing versions is that it has clipped wing tips. The curved extensions were added to reduce drag. See http://www.vc10.net/Technical/wing_shapes.html.

These extensions are commonly known as Kuchemann wing tips after the German aerodynamicst who designed them. At the time he worked for the RAE at Farnborough, and also lectured at my alma mater - Imperial College London. These days these Kuchemann wingtips have bee replaced by the more effective winglets.

The RAF version shown in the drawing is of the RAF version. This has a small extension at the rear of the fuselage to house an APU. It also has a refueling probe in front of the windscreen. There are other detail changes in later versions ,such as cargo door, number of passenger windows, additonal smalll wing fences, and a modified wing leading edge giving a larger wing area. Most of these are only visible to folk wearing anoraks. http://www.vc10.net gives a very good overview.

This might be an excuse for me to continue some work I started years ago on modelling a Carousel INS using the FMS system. I was figuring someone else might have coded one up independently, but at least I don't see any mention of it in the 707.

Way back in time, many a fine INS came from Edinburgh

Alan, I would recommend removing the generic FCS from jsbsim and modelling each surface. That way you can best view the outcomes of your Aerodynamics work.

Kind Regards,

Josh
Thanks for the heads up.
A replacement autopilot is under development.
As a precaution I have commented out the generic autopilot to stop it being called.
