E-Jet Family / Lineage 1000

Postby tdammers » Thu Jun 18, 2020 4:22 pm

Hi all,

I could use some help on the Embraer E-Jet family.

Current upstream is at https://github.com/YV3399/E-jet-family-YV, my own repo is at https://github.com/tdammers/E-jet-family-YV.

Concretely, I'd love some help on the following aspects:

1. Testing the updated FDMs I devised, found here: https://github.com/tdammers/E-jet-famil ... ee/wip/fdm

I have redone almost the entire FDMs for all four models (170, 175, 190, 195), based on various real-world references, and I believe the model is fairly close to the real thing, but testing these things is of course a time consuming task.

2. Testing the new Lineage 1000 bizjet (based on the E190), found here: https://github.com/tdammers/E-jet-famil ... ineage1000

The FDM includes the different base weight and payload limits for the Lineage 1000, and also has the huge extra tank that gives it a whopping 4600 nm range.

3. A proper 3D model for the Lineage 1000 cabin. The current one is just the E190 cabin with the seats removed and the textures swapped for brown ones, but would of course be lovely to have something like the luxury interior found in the real thing. Some bizjet liveries would be great too.

4. Fix the missing light and knob rigging on the glareshield and add labels, so that I can animate the FLCH light and make those buttons actually do something.

Other improvements that I want to make in the future include:

- Axe the current MFD and redo it from scratch, either based on the existing ND framework, or figure out something else.
- FBW system
- Better autopilot tuning (including autoland)
- VNAV
- FMS-managed speeds
- Fully functional FMC
- Working barber poles, flap dots, vspeed markers, etc. in the PFD

Help with those is of course also welcome, but the above 4 are the ones that I feel least qualified to do myself.

Cheers!

@tdammers, I am testing all the improvements, I will notify you soon.
You already have permission to push into the original repository YV.
regards, great job.

No, you just did not rename the folder.

Do you think the author would have missed something like that? Really...

Good airplane but cockpit needs many improvements

@PL-NEXT, you really needed only one post to write what you used three for...

In anycase, you've a history of criticising aircraft devs. In the FlightGear world, if something is broken, or just not as good as you want it, then the solution is to work on it yourself, or learning to do so yourself, at least.
If you're going to criticise the actually quite functional and pretty complete (but, not perfect - through no fault of tdammers) cockpit, provide your expertise and fix it!

Maybe we will build the F-22 Raptor?
But better than the F-16 or even Cessna 172!
We need everyone:
Who can program,
Who can model 3D?
And everyone who wants to help.
It is possible that we will take 3D models with X-Plane or FSX, if we do not go.
I will prepare a repository in GitHub.
.
Together we will do it. :D :D :D OPEN SOURCE

QS is just a very weak plane, through a weak cockpit

Tdammers has done a lot of much appreciated and rather excellent work on bringing the E-Jets into the 2020s. They fly better than ever, both in terms of dynamics and autopilot integration. Huge props for that. And for going the extra mile adding the Lineage!

Speaking of, looking forward to trying out the changes to the E190! I've flown your updated E170 FDM only minimally, but the old E190 FDM a lot.

I'll edit this part of the post when I have some notes on how it flies!

Thanks! I have a truckload of other improvements in the pipeline, here's to hoping I can put in enough time to make it happen...

This may not be obvious, but since this aircraft model was originally forked from `E-Jet-family`, that is what you need to name the folder, but the repository name is `E-Jet-family-YV`. So you need to remove the `-YV` part.

This is due to a stupid limitation in the way FlightGear propagates model names over multiplayer; we've had a ton of discussions about it, but the gist is that there isn't an obvious way forward to solve this, so the aircraft folder name must remain hard-coded into the aircraft model.

Absolutely. I'm currently focused on getting the FDM, autopilot, TRS, FADECs, FBW, EFIS and PFD right; part of that will be the missing glareshield buttons (if you feel like doing some 3D work, by all means be my guest!). After that, the next big projects are the MFD, which I will probably redo from scratch, and the MCDUs.

Any suggestions, as well as contributions, especially on the 3D modelling front, are very welcome though, so if you feel so inclined, by all means send patches.

Oh, and, before I forget; big shout-out to Octal450 for the glorious IT-Autoflight system. Development of that has picked up again, and it's getting even better by the minute.

A word of advice on 3D collaboration. Break the model into parts that you assign to people or teams working tightly together(communication!) otherwise you will be shooting yourself in the foot before you know it.

Glad you like it!

Y you are so negative! You realize that nobody here is paid right? So either be constructive and polite in your criticism, or offer to fix it yourself, or don't comment at all. Negativity will not help a nobody.
