Embraer-ERJ-145 landing lights

Just wanted landing lights in my ERJ. Had a major rodeo. First, the ERJ cones were buried in the wings, which I remedied. Then they wouldn't illuminate the pavement-until I found no one else's would, either.

When I finally got lights to illuminate the runway,using "Lights" copied from the 737-200, the wing lights reflected off and partially obscured the AI in the cockpit.

Also, the features for adjusting cone angles didn't seem to work with the "Lights" folder cones.

So, I stuck a single cone in the nose, as shown above; and described below:

Copied the "Light" folder from the 737-200 to the Embraer-ERJ-145 Models leaving its own "Lights" folder in tact.

Added the below to erj-145.xml:

<model>
<path>Aircraft/Embraer-ERJ-145/Models/light/light-cone.xml</path>
<offsets>
<x-m> -14.900 </x-m>
<y-m> 0.00000 </y-m>
<z-m> -1.5000 </z-m>
<pitch-deg> 0.0000 </pitch-deg>
<heading-deg> 0.00000 </heading-deg>
</offsets>
</model>

Anyway, it's a usable starting point. :)

Regards to all

Once on 2018.3.5, was able to adjust cone angles; so went back to wing lights; but placed them further out.

<!-- Light cone left -->
<model>
<path>Aircraft/Embraer-ERJ-145/Models/light/light-cone.xml</path>
<offsets>
<x-m> -.8000 </x-m>
<y-m> -4.000 </y-m>
<z-m> -1.6000 </z-m>
<pitch-deg> -6.0000 </pitch-deg>
<heading-deg> -5.0000 </heading-deg>
</offsets>
</model>

<!-- Light cone right -->
<model>
<path>Aircraft/Embraer-ERJ-145/Models/light/light-cone.xml</path>
<offsets>
<x-m> -.8000 </x-m>
<y-m> 4.000 </y-m>
<z-m> -1.6000 </z-m>
<pitch-deg> -6.0000 </pitch-deg>
<heading-deg> 5.0000 </heading-deg>
</offsets>
</model>
<!--
<model>
<path>Aircraft/Embraer-ERJ-145/Models/light/light-cone.xml</path>
<offsets>
<x-m> -14.9 </x-m>
<y-m> 0.00000 </y-m>
<z-m> -1.5000 </z-m>
<pitch-deg> 0.0000 </pitch-deg>
<heading-deg> 0.00000 </heading-deg>
</offsets>
</model>
-->

Will fly this arrangement for time being, and see how it goes. :)

Best Regards

Moving lights still further out eliminated fuselage shadow and made for a better ground image.

Hey dilbert! Greetings from Baja Alabama!

Are you using Rembrandt rendering for those lights? I think I had problems with that using multiple screens on FG 2018-3-1.
Haven't tried it since. Now on 2019.2.0. I've resigned myself to ALS rendering, and the lights are not as effective.
There was a glimmer of hope with the promise of a new render type, but I haven't heard any more about it. Configurator or something like that.

Hi Surfer Tim
I just edited out my complaint about 2019.1.2-for some reason the lights are now working in it, while running on my old Celeron laptop (don't now really know what happened before). Ran into some cones specified for Rembrandt along the way, but didn't end up using them. Would be nice if they were brighter.

I was just curious. I like flying at night in both the Twin Otter and the Citation-X.
Always on the lookout for better exterior lighting.

A lot of this is new to me. Currently don't have Sketchup or other means to edit .ac files. Been playing in .xml with stacking cones at same location. Could be an illusion, but the port side above with three stacked cones looks to me brighter than the starboard with one.

Starboard triple stacked, as well. Compare with just port triple stacked, above. So maybe I'm not totally bonkers

Anyway, I think a better approach would be to create a transparent, runway pattern for landing lights on the windscreen; and when landing lights are selected, make an always afternoon condition within that pattern. That way the light pattern wouldn't fade out in total darkness; as within it, you would always see the bi-passing scenery at afternoon. If landing lights were selected aloft, you would have a "night vision" capability, Unfortunately, trying and testing such is still beyond my current, limited capabilities. :(

Two lights same position; angle splayed. Best yet.

Housekeeping note:
Copying whole "Flight" directory to Models was unnecessary . All that was really needed was to overwrite the cone.xml and cone.ac files in the "Flights" directory with those from "Flight". So, after having done that, changed the path statements immediately above to read "/flights/flight", instead of "/flight/flight"; thereafter deleted the "flight" directory.

Don't know why the above url didn't work, but here's the image of the two lights stacked at the nose, as per the Models/erg145.xml code shown; which I think the best arrangement, so far. :)

Best Regards to all

My one remaining problem is that the provisions for toggling the landing light in Embraer-ERJ-145/Systems/keyboard and /systems/controls are not working, as the light stays on, regardless of whether "l" is depressed. :(

Those new lights are probably controlled by another property.
You may need to put a listener on the original property to activate the new lights.

Thanks.

Adding animation to the Models/Lights/light-cone.xml, as below fixed the problem handily. :D

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<PropertyList>

<path>light-cone.ac</path>
<nopreview/>

<effect>
<inherits-from>Effects/light-cone</inherits-from>
<object-name>Cone</object-name>
</effect>
<animation>
<type>select</type>
<condition>
<property>/controls/lighting/landing-lights</property>
</condition>
</animation>

</PropertyList>

Really appreciate the help.

Kind Regards

if you're speaking of the image in the previous post, it appears that you have leading and trailing spaces... remove them and the img tags should work ;)
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

Probably what happened. Fortunately, the same image displayed in the following post after I re-uploaded the screenshot and got a new url.
