Piper PA28 Warrior II
Image
Good day everybody,
just wanted to let you know, that the former IDG-PA28 by Joshua Davidson is now maintained by me and published on FGAddon.
https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/fg ... raft/PA28/
Feel free to post feedback, issues or anything else related in this thread :)
Have fun flying!

Instrument Status
As it came up quite a number of times, a short summary of the status (to be expanded)
    G5: Primary Flight Instruments should be working, battery charge/discharge should be quite realistic, *nothing else* especially no menu etc.
    GNS530: only basic button animations (3d, pushing in), no functionality whatsoever

Great! This little Cessna-alternative deserves loving care.

Thanks to everyone who have laid the groundwork and thanks to continue it.

In a short field landing it is quite hard to meet speed and angle.
Actually glide number with flaps is higher than without ( abt. 11,2 vs 10,6) so something not correct.

AT 70kts and engine off it comes down with 630 fpm. In comparison the C172 makes 830 fpm in this condition. Seems to be more realistic.

pa28-aerodynamics.xml has a CDalpha table depending on flap condition. CLalpha is not depending on flap setting.

For CLflap it is

<function name="aero/coefficient/CLflap">
<description>Lift due to flaps</description>
<product>
<property>aero/qbar-psf</property>
<property>metrics/Sw-sqft</property>
<property>fcs/flap-pos-deg</property>
<value>0.00521</value>
<property>crash-stress/wing-factor</property>
</product>
</function>

It is worth playing around with the 0,00521 until happy with final approach and thereby assuming the CDalpha table to be true and validated?

Really good to hear. I like flying this plane. There is one thing missing, the add on to the autopilot, SA-200 Altitude. This allows an altitude preset. There is another similar add on but that one appears quite complicated.

I am flying the plane at the moment and have just encountered an issue when I was ascending and clicked on Alt the plane didn't ascending. Could be just a one off glitch, it's the first time it's happened, but?

Thanks unrealaviation, Knüppelrührer and Robert ;)

I think I can add the Altitude Preselector, do you by chance know an image of a cockpit of PA28 with that installed?

Also, I don't quite understand what happened to you, would you mind explaining in more detail?

AP disc is already on the yoke. Visible when the latter is visible.
It is fun to go through the checklist of the s-tec!
DME display and working transponder might be more (edit: also) important for this rather simple aircraft.

Refering to above: I'll experiment a bit with the coefficients on the weekend.

@D-Echo: thanks for translating my fast-written words.

It would be great if someone has access to a real Piper Warrior / Arrow / Cherokee.
There are a couple of ideas.... via PM if preferred.

Some posts were split off to the new topic Manually configuring a joystick - FlightGear vs FSX vs XP11.

Is it not the GNS530. This is the G5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B15sQHNQJg8 Not sure whether the 530 is supposed to be active but doesn't respond to any function of my mouse. Also moving the radio stack has made that function difficult to use in normal cockpit load. The G5 is designed to fit in the same size hole as the blank spot.

As I said the SA 200 would compliment to AP, although the G5 has a Altitude preset

It is G5. It can be activated in aircraft configuration right at the start. Or menu -> system ->aircraft config.
Should be the first in FG. Happy it was programmed.

There might be some items higher on the list than the SA200 for this trainer aircraft.

My apologise I didn't realise it was an options item. However whilst it turns on I can't get the menu selection button to activate. I've tried all settings on my mouse. Am I missing something else.

It is version 1.0, so do not expect it to be programmed 100%.
It does 96% of the purpose of this instrument. Time for some real IFR - Training :-)

If I don't ask I won't know. The flying functions work fine. I watched several videos on this. In real life it can link to any AP and it has an altitude hold feature, which the AP installed doesn't have hence my reference to SA200 that is the altitude hold for the AP. The G5 fits nicely

Forgot to mention when sitting on the threshold the nose started to bounce up and down when I accelerated it stopped.
