777 ALS compared to IDG-A32X lightning

Postby pavlin » Fri Sep 28, 2018 8:58 am

Good day, dear developers of FGFS.

Today I was wonder for better lightning at the 777 with ALS shades.

During night conditions the IDG planes with fully extended ALS have better visibility on the model and the cockpit bmo.
I am posting images:

The examples are from landing at EDDF under ATC control and this was live streamed flight in my twitch account.

For comparing of the 777 with the same shades:

As you can see there is significant difference in the two models shading and light. At the 777 the fully extended ALS shades are not so visible as in the IDG-A32X.

Prob. some of you will ask - what I mean by fully extended ALS shades??? I mean this:

This is the custom ALS shades I use in most of my streams during overnight flying. It's still there is significant differences between the first FDM to the another. Legoboyvdlp has try to add light map to the plane so it can looks lighter and more visible, but it did not work, unfortunately.

Any ideas how to make this possible??? I'll really be glad.

Thx for listening to me.

Hi Pavlin,
I believe it is due to the low-emission value on the models, not being completely dark, but being somewhat higher, so that even in dark, you can still somewhat see from the outside. The cockpit is only lit because of ambient light coming off the integrity lights, and displays.

However, I think it may also be due to if the 777 authors made a non-ALS lighting scheme using emission material animations. That would affect the brightness at night.

Kind Regards,
Josh

Not unless you modify the 3D lighting effects or/and material animations.

I think the summary statement is that each aircraft maintainer decides how 'his' aircraft looks at night - FG supplies the tools, maintainers use them (or not).

So, if I want to have better 777 ALS shading I need to re-done a 3D model for it?

No, but effects, materials and lightmaps (actually the 777 looks better in your screenshots...)

I think, dear Octal, that someone in your team has to teach me how to do that.....

actually the 777 looks better in your screenshots...

That's because the IDG-A32X is currently under remodeling of the 3D model. It will become better as a 3D model bmo then the 777 in time.

I'm actually not sure why you have so much bloom in your sim, @Pavlin, did you change your bloom settings in ALS?

I've added the ALS rendering in the launcher before going in the sim. Would this a problem you think? Btw what's bloom settings?

Mine looks the same as it0uchpod's and is a fairly low powered GPU comparatively.

To be honest, in real life the cockpit is much darker than the IDG:

our cockpit maybe should actually be darker than it is, our material settings are probably incorrect.
