Aircraft hangar (FGaddon)

Postby WoodSTokk » Mon Jul 30, 2018 8:45 pm

Is it possible that the standard hangar (http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/ftp/Aircraft/) has a problem?
Because there are updates for the Citation II, but the actual version on hangar is older.
I think there is a mechanism (script?) that pull updates from sf.net and this mechanism stuck.
Can everybody lease check it please?

Thx!

Not sure what the update frequency is these days, but it doesn't necessarily make sense to have the latest repository version of an aircraft up for download, because it might not even run with the latest stable version of FG, only with the latest devel version. So as long as you get an update with every stable release, I think everything is okay.

The problem is, that i'm working on the Citation II and send diffs to the maintainer.
The best way is to build the diffs against the latest version.
Anyway, i have downloaded the latest version from sf.net and build the diff.

So, all is okay and the work goes on ;)

Never ever get the aircraft via FG download mechanism when trying to submit patches and assume it's okay - always contact the maintainer first and ask for the preferred version to base diffs on. Many people develop aircraft on outside repositories and push only stable versions to FGAddon (I am among those), so you'd waste a lot of your time trying to write additions on the FGAddon version when the issues have been fixed a while ago on the devel repository.

I double check allways the version number in the set.xml file to ensure i have the latest version.
This is exaclty the way how i found out that the FGaddon hangar is out of date.
I am in contact with the maintainer and the only that actually work on the Citation II.
The diffs allways contains stable updates and will be send in small steps and the maintainer check and push it into the repo.
This means, that tha latest version (at least for the Citation II) is allways on sf.net.
I have expect that ibiblio.org run a update every night, but it doesn't. No problem, i can live with it.
So in the future i will directly check sf.net insteed of ibiblio.org.

If i ever develope on another aircraft, i will ask who is maintaining and where are the latest files or repo first.

For working on aircraft developed directly on FGAddon, it is best to use subversion. See:

I know, but i havn't a sf.net account.
The maintainer have allready suggested that i should create a account and ask on the devel-list for a clearance to update direclty.
Actually, i'm working localy and send diffs to the maintainer.

But are you using svn to make your development process easier?

I use git for one project from me. I have never used svn, but i think its simpler than git.
But to test it, i must create a sf.net account. Will have a look.

The SF account is only needed to make commits. You can use svn without the account to keep up to date with the latest changes to the aircraft. But you would need a new checkout once you do have a SF account.
