2017.2 Animation improvements

Postby Richard » Thu May 11, 2017 6:16 pm

Added in (the upcoming) V2017.2 release is support to allow a geometry object (a line segment with two vertices) that is used to define both the centre and the axis for an animation. This will work with rotate, translate and the knob animations.

This makes it easier to define the axis (no more manual entry of coordinates), and also means that if the object is moved the axis will follow this movement and therefore make it easier to reuse objects.

The syntax for this is
Code: Select all

Once the object-name used for the axis has been processed the geometry object will be hidden. This also allows a visual check for any axis objects that are not yet assigned.

It is possible to reuse the same object definition multiple times within a single XML file.

Yes, really cool. Could have used this puppy a few hundred rotations ago, but thanks non the less. :D

Existing methods for animations should still work exactly as before. If animations don't work as before then it's a bug in the new stuff that I'll fix.

You haven't got enough props for this yet so I'll just go ahead and say a huge thank you!

As someone who only in the past year has got the hang of animating things this is something that we've really badly needed.

On a complex aircraft development this could easily save tens if not hundreds of hours as well as mean more complex anims are more likely to make it into the sim.
Huge step forward in a very often overlooked area.

I owe you a beer for this one.

Thanks! This will make it much easier when re-positioning existing animated objects, which will result in fewer occasions where I say "Maybe it is good enough where it is" when it should really be moved. 8)
