Bristol Freighter Mk.31

Postby owenpsmith » Fri Nov 11, 2016 10:49 pm

I have have been working on the Bristol Freighter for about 4 years now in the little free time I have. I have finally got it to the point where I feel that I can put out an Alpha release for feedback. I just need to do a few more steps to prepare the release, so I will post back in a few weeks once it ready. Here are a few screenshots in the meantime.

Enjoy!

Owen.

Wow. Looks like my kind of plane and I look forward to trying it!

Have you seen these timetables?

There are plenty of others too, and sometimes a good source of historic liveries.

Hmmm . . I have collected many photos for livery development but I haven't looked for timetables! Looks like they are a good source for logos and fonts. I saw the Freighters operating out of Terrace, BC, Canada for most of my childhood. However since they were used purely for charter freight operations to remote mining camps, there were not any timetables  Thanks a lot for pointing me to those, I'll have to browse through them and maybe look at some for other airline/aircraft combos I'm interested in developing liveries for.

As a child I lived less than a mile from Southend airfield and the Bristol Freighter and Superfreighter were probably the most common aircraft that I saw every day. Oh memories.

However my favourite was the beautiful DH Dragon Rapide which used the shorter cross runway and flew over our house.

Ok, first release is ready! I'll get it uploaded to FGAddon as soon as I can get access or someone to add it for me. In the meantime, you can download it here:

http://flightgearcanada.altervista.org/forum_files/BristolFreighter.zip

You can also preview the model in 3D here, just click on the "3D" link next to "Bristol Freighter Mk.31"

The next release will feature a more detailed cockpit with factory panels with selected instrumentation, pedestal with functional engine controls, cabin stringers and windows, and cleaned up nose door mesh.

Please post any feedback or issues to this thread.

Enjoy!

If you want to 'just' add it, I can do this.

If you want to gain access yourself, I'd suggest you write to the mailing list and express your interest, look for a mentor who looks over your work and once it's clear you understand how to move on the repository, you'll get access.

In either case, can you confirm that you want to release this under the GPL 2+ license and that you can actually do this (i.e. it's either your work or taken from GPL or compatible work, i.e. public domain or similar - no textures based on licensed images, no excerpts from proprietary flight manuals,...)?

Thanks Thorsten, yes I would be happy for you to just add it. I have my own development git account so I don't need access except for submitting new releases.

Yes, I confirm that I want to release it under GPL 2+ license and confirm that all work is original except for sounds which I mostly got from the Douglas-Dc3, and a few instruments I got from other aircraft. All are in FGAddon already so I assume are compliant with the license.

Thanks,

Owen.

I also included the standard license file in my aircraft root directory :-)

Okay - I just downloaded the package. I'll look over it and see if it runs for me, and push it to FGAddon if everything is fine.

Great plane. Thank you so much.
Hoped for this quite long, since it fits so beautifully for the Tempelhof airport.
It was used there a lot. Was about to go to bed already, but couldn't resist to give it a try. :D 2 a.m. here.

Really like these old planes. Will there be a paint-kit?
Also great, that it worked with my old FG version;-)

Glad you like it. There is a .xcf for the texture mapping which has all the layers including the UV map. This is just a temporary one so please don't upload liveries to the FG livery page yet. I will do a more detailed mapping once I've completed the major mesh revisions in the next few releases. If you do any liveries based on the current mapping, please share them here and I'll post here when final mapping is completed.
