maybe you could use a text box and fill it in with the keyboard keys or the buttons on the MCDU? validating the data and format would be the worst, i think...
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.

That has no point. Might as well just click the letters on the MCDU then? We already evaluate format and data on each entry, so it doesn't matter where it comes from. Invalid characters we just block from the keyboard, and the valid characters we just type into the scratchpad and the regular MCDU logic does the rest.

Josh

it does if one wants to use their keyboard to type the data in faster than point'n'clicky schtuff with a mouse ;)

as i read it, that's exactly what he wants to get away from or at least offer two ways of inputting the data... slow mousing about way or faster direct keyboard input way...

cool! that's part of the job already done...

either way, it was only a suggestion in case the team decides to pick up the challenge...

wkitty42 got it...

you don't have to map all keys, only those which are present on the MCDU. so [0-9A-Z.-+] for input in the scratch pad, F1-F12 for the LSKs and the arrow keys. I won't bother to use the page keys with the mouse tho.

I could imagine something like it is done in other sims. you klick somwhere (in some cases it's the display but we've used that alread... so maybe then Ctrl+click on display). This enters MCDU keyboard mode and unbinds every thing else. To exit MCDU keyboard mode you either Ctrl+click again or hit <Esc>. This will return the bindings to the state you've got before.

You might want some kind of indication, that you are in MCDU keyboard mode

Dear wkitty,
I am sorry, I misunderstood you completely (and I guess I never hit post, as I typed this hours ago?)

I thought you suggesting I make a new input for the MCDU instead of using its existing system... which would not make sense.
Anyways probably we don't do it for ages because we have to bind every key and add its bindings -- and that is messy and fragmentation. So I'm not sure yet, we will have to see.

But who knows, I don't really think we need it. Not like you are typing essays on you MCDU either.

Again? I thought you were doing that the last months.

More evidence of you not listening... I stated clearly many times what I've been doing (aside from real life -- which I have been bussy with)

Kind Regards,
Josh

When we have ALL the info we need for it, probably, assuming it hasn't changed too much from the others. We can only vary code so much before it just becomes difficult.

Thanks - will look at the code. Maybe a FG bug as AFAIK it takes that directly from FG properties? Anyway the nav display will soon be rewritten - will hopefully fix it :)

Shift+Scroll now will adjust ALT by 1000, VS by 1000, HDG by 10 and IAS by 10 or MACH by 0.01
Shift+Click SPD, HDG, ALT, or VS knob will now do a PULL function in addition to Middle Click for those who can't middle click (laptops + Mac)

If you all like this, I will roll it out to the rest of the aircraft's bindings where applicable.

Kind Regards,
Josh

ALT by 1000? there's that black thing around the ALT knob that you can set to 100 or 1000 to do exactly that...

I know, but some people like myself like leaving it on 100 so I can use fine, and then accelerate it.

This feature is similar to "scroll wheel acceleration" in other Sims but more predictable.

Besides, the other knobs do that x10 with shift. So this should too to keep it uniform.

What's a matter?

Josh
