Erickson S-64 Aircrane anyone?

Postby frozen » Mon Feb 02, 2009 9:17 am

Good morning! ;)

I'm a fan of the heavy helicopters. I loved flying the Aircrane on MSFS. So I would love to see it in FGFS! Unfortunately I'm very new to FGFS. Also I'm not a 3d modeler or even graphics specialist. Even worse: I don't even have knowledge of creating aircraft for FGFS in any way. So I hope that anyone will some time provide some work on this great machine called S-64 Aircrane.

As a little bit of help, Erickson offers some drawings and photos for modelers. You can find them here:
http://www.ericksonaircrane.com/modelerzone.php

This helicopter contains quite a lot room for additional extensions of the general model for the future. There are versions using a tank, which can be filled in air with up to 2500 gallons of water for firefighting. This was made for MSFS as well as some weights like logs, a tank and an electrical tower. I don't know if this is possible with FGFS though. ;)

I'm afraid I can just ask for someone to do this machine without being able to provide any help in the creation itself. :( I would like to write some documentation or anything else I could do though!

Kind regards,

frozen

Addition: I found a Google Sketchup model of this machine:

I don't know, which kind of license WilliamT used for this, though..

Hi,

I started preparing to make a Blender Aircrane long ago, but I went to other aircraft since then.

A little work since the last time;)

Maybe the time has come for me to take this and make this great helicopter.

Best regards. Emmanuel

Here in Australia, we love the Aircrane! "Elvis" and his brothers and sisters are very popular
for their efforts fighting bushfires.

It's been a terrible time here this week: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Victorian_bushfires.

@xmiker
I have seen the fires on our TV here in germany and I hope, that there will be no more people dead or houses destroyed. It is really terrible. One reason, why I like this aircrane so much is exactly the one you already mentioned. It's huge and it's load is huge. This makes it a great firefighter. This machine (and their great pilots!) saves lifes!

My thoughts are with you and the other australians...

@Emmanuel
Looks great! If I can help you in any way, just tell me!

Kind regards,

the nose of the Aircrane that I did, not liked. I do it again differently. Closer to the truth I think.

Hi all

Well. Now that a first version of FDM is (A big thank you to HHS), I think you'll be curious to test this.

The Erickson S64 E Aircrane is now available in my hangar or with this direct link : http://helijah.free.fr/flightgear/tar.g ... 009.tar.gz

Note: Be indulgent, many things are still to be done. The panel, a large part of the engines, rotors and other details...et....

Unfortunately there seems to be a file missing (data/Aircraft/Super-Frelon/Models/MainRotor/blade.xml whatever this Super-Frelon is...). As a result (?) the aircrane was invisible..

Great!

For the panel please have a look into the CH53E by Josh Babcock- he did a great one and with some adjustements it fits greatly to the S64E!

I found some bugs in the fdm, now the S64E can also taxi on ground.
Please download the fixed fdm: www.hoerbird.net/aircrane.xml

Thanks for your work
